I was driving back from New Jersey to Boston today and wanted to comment on some of the things I noticed while driving through Connecticut this afternoon...
95.9 WEFX: Kind of a 'blink and you'll miss it' radio station, however I got them in driving up I-684 from White Plains, NY almost up to I-84 in Brewster. The station seems like a pretty middle-of-the-road classic rock station, however they've got quite some sound. I heard Grand Funk's "We're An American Band" and the cowbell on the song sounded effin' awesome! I was trying to get I-95 (the radio station) at the time, and came across 95.9 the Fox and said to myself, "Ahh, I remember this station." Speaking of I-95...
95.1 WRKI: Is it me, or is it that WRKI just has the worst transmitter location? If I look at a map, I assume that WRKI travels much farther and has better reception than it actually does. You have to be about 10 miles from I-84 traveling up I-684 just to get the station in, then once you get into Waterbury, there's interference from 93.7 WZMX. WRKI actually comes in decent on the eastern side of Hartford until you get to about Stafford Springs when it completely goes out. I know WRKI has boosters closer to the coast of Connecticut, but the interference from WZMX seems way out of wack. And I know there's a 1.3 MHz separation rule, but have no idea how it effects the two stations.
98.7 WNLC: Noticed they're not playing grandma music anymore. It's a classic hits station now. Interesting. Trying to forge a place between 104.7 the Wolf and Cool 101.
Other notes: The sound quality on Power 104 (WPHH) seems muddy. It was hard to listen to. Also, I'm not sure if this is a regular thing, but 97.9 WPKX was playing what sounded to be a terrible-quality download of Montgomery Gentry's "Hell Yeah." Do the jocks or engineers even notice this?
That's about it. WAQY and WCCC had the Pats game on. Not much else to say, but if TXengineer could shed some light on the WRKI thing, that would be great.
