Conservative Republican Steve Malzberg to replace liberal Democrat Lionel

I am VERY disappointed with WOR's decision.

Why not Mike Malloy???

Keep in mind that Mike Malloy won the 2005 New York A.I.R. awards, and yet, stupid WOR put this freak on, instead of a person, who won a New York Radio award???

Unbelievable...

Re: Nonsensical Palaver About Lionel

Lionel is -NOT- a liberal Democrat. He's more of a libertarian than a Democrat - pro gun, against government involvement in drug war, social policy, distrusts government motives in general (including 9/11), and ever since he went to Israel, extremely pro-Israel. Anyone who apparently dislikes Bush is labeled as a "liberal Democrat," apparently.

BTW, Lionel himself rejects the kind of labels which the OP attached for precisely the same reason I am objecting to them - they do not accurately describe anything.

One can get a sense of where Lionel stands with AAR listeners on many of the liberal blogs, which are attacking him for replacing Sam Seder precisely because Lionel is neither a liberal nor a Democrat. But he stands in good company with those who reject the current administration and the concept of "playbook - talking point reading talk radio," of which he accuses both sides of doing.

Lionel is one of those shows that doesn't fit if you try and stuff it into a rigid corner.

Re: Nonsensical Palaver About Lionel

Lionel is very good, but Philip, his being so independent will not matter now that he has signed on with a namely liberal talk network.

Malzberg will have a very strong lead-in from 6-9 of course in The Savage Nation on 'OR. Thing is he will be on 9-11 on WOR, but 9-midnight ET nationally as WOR's own network syndicates him. My question is why doesn't WOR take the full three instead of Dr. Ronald Hoffman 11-midnight?

I listened to Lionel on a few occasions--cringe inducing radio given he is "progressive" (nee liberal or left of center as some of his defenders will say). He'll fit in with the **COUGH** second coming of (Dead) Air America!

Tell that to the Air America supporters who have lit torches and are threatening to storm the studios now that Sam Seder has been buried on weekends. There is absolutely no love for Lionel on Air America. He's not considered a "traitor" like Alan Colmes or a "nasty bastard" like Ed Schultz (who Randi Rhodes fans believe is responsible for her tape delay status on many AAR stations that carried Schultz live), but he's about on par with Jerry Springer in popularity for the hard core fans over there.

I personally find Lionel refreshing because he's willing to give politics a break, and will challenge weak thinking on issues regardless of political persuasion.

I really don't understand the thinking of "Air America supporters" who "light torches" and "storm the studios" on behalf of weak hosts who never should have been hired in the first place: Seder, Maron and the Unfiltered crew. And attack solid progressive talk hosts who happen to be syndicated by somebody else, just because they are syndicated by somebody else. The truth is progressive talk would have faded by now if not for Ed Schultz, Stephanie Miller and even Lionel, Colmes and Malloy in the late evening, who have drawn listeners and kept progressive talk stations afloat.
