Considering the Springfield Market

I am being considered for ( and am considering taking if offered) a position in the Springfield area. I was wondering if any one could give me some insights to the market there. What are the "good" stations to work for and what are the "bad" and any other info that might be of use.

I am not providing owner name or calls because I would like completely objective thoughts and comments. Thank you in advance for your help ::)

If it is the Taylorville (Miller) stations...in my opinion...RUN FORREST RUN! I see they are advertising again and they are nearby enough to Springfield to possibly mislead someone from far away that they are part of that market. If it is them...I believe you will only find heartache there.

In the real Springfield.... A place to raise kids.... Decatur and Springfield nice and close to STL... I really was looking for a gig there before I bought my AM (Oh, the headaches.. I will survive..).. But, I guess I am too old to consider.. Geez, I work cheap as long as I can book my karaoke outfit or do play-by-play for some school... Ha! Almost easier to be the Gov. of Illinois....

Thank you for your comments and help ;D

Fortunately (it would appear) the station in question is a Springfield station. I will be coming in from Ohio in about a week to check things out in person so I guess time will tell.

I can say if it's WNNS (A/C).. A great female voice could make it shine.. I wish radio gurus had not stereotyped me as a old CHR teen jock and programmer.. If they'd hear my WIKY stuff, I think I could do well in a market like Springfield-Decatur... I'd settle down for my last 20 years of full time work.. I love smaller to medium cities.. If you want some good media contacts to introduce you to the town, let me know.. I have a guy I helped get into radio who is a major weatherman there (with NBC in Springfield-Decatur-Danville-Champaign - TV 20/15 and FOX).. He and his wife are PRIMO people and love their city.......Couldn't hurt having that kind of contact in a great area (warning.. All of downstate Illinois pays taxes for Chicago... So, put another five grand to what you make in Ohio to match your cost of living... TAXES...)...

Might have been a long time ago since you posted this thread, but did you get the position in Springfield? And which station?
