I really dislike sloppyness on the radio that's consistently sloppy.
I don't claim to be a great programmer or DJ, average at best really.. but I do my damnedest to not have a sloppy on air product.
I was streaming a satellite fed country station earlier today because I wanted to hear their local newscast. Coming back from a local break, I heard.. "country music's gotta do what country musics gotta do, turn it up......."
And the local stab was missing was missing. In satellite fed radio, when you hear liners like this... the first part is fired by the and at the network side, when you hear, ".. on 108 country FM".. thats fired by the network but plays out locally.
When that doesnt play, it means the station is missing something in their program logs.
They didnt take optional 50 after commercial break and there was silence between where the jock talked and when the next song started where a liner of some sort clearly should've been.
They came back from the TOH break right into a song with no liner.
It so easy to do that kinda stuff right and keep it going.
I don’t claim to be great. And when I managed the local content for a satellite fed station, someone else set up the relays and programmed the liners where they belonged. I filled the slots/rotator carts, kept em fresh etc.
We ran the system for a week off air in studio before we took over operation of the station and moved it to our new location so we could catch problems.
But we never had a single Missing liner.
I spent several hours writing the liners one day and a few weeks later? I spent an entire afternoon getting things just right in automation.
They have local staff, several.. and someone just missed programming something.
Now before anyone comes and says well KSKO sounds like amatuer hour. Well, its not as smooth as id like sometimes, but as a staff of one with no competition I focus on local content vs imaging given to our audience knows exactly who we are.
