Construction Permit for WFLF

Didn't see this brought up around here. Not much WFLF chatter going on.

Daytime has the signal widened a bit and squashed on the north and south so that it will reach both coasts, and cities like Spring Hill, under the strongest portions. Nighttime signal has everything blasting towards the east. It also has the transmitter moving up about 10 miles closer to John's Lake.

Does anyone know what the status of this CP is?

I have noticed (just within the last week) on www.radio-locator.com that regardless of what area zip code I put in, there is no longer the CP symbol and then when I click on station info; all the previous CP info has been deleted.

I went to the FCC website as well and to me, it's not clear whether or not the CP is still ongoing or whether it's been cancelled. (the CP info is listed as a 2nd prior record and no annotations of status or date of the info that I could find.

It seems that I read several months ago that WFLF has been granted an extention of the CP; but I'm not sure where I read that.

I have Googled for some info as well, but still can't find out the status.

As far as I know the towers under the old license do not even exist any more which would indicate that the CP is no longer needed as they now share tower space with 740 just south of Johns Lake. Their new night time signal is terrible. You cannot even pick them up clearly at I-4 and 27 anymore and 1 year ago they had a grade a night time signal all the way to Tampa.

Thank you, Tanner.

One thing that had me confused, (more so than usual!), was that on the radio-locator site, where they list the milage to the tower, the milage to 540 and 740 still does not match; in other words from where my parents live in extreme eastern Hernando (about 5 miles east of I-75) off of State Rd 50; radio-locator shows about 25 miles to 540's tower and something like 32 miles to 740's tower; but I should have realized that radio-locator is often not up to date.

Where my parents live the daytime signal is still the strongest AM signal and it is strong and used to be as strong at night as well; now at night it's a mixture of a weak ground signal and some skywave and really isn't listenable; now WVLG 640 out of the Villages is by default, the strongest night time signal.

I would have thought that even with the new pattern that they would still be listenable at I-4 and Highway 27.Of course that's Polk county (but not all that far from Osceola county) and they're concerned about ratings and coverage in Lake county,Osceola, Orange and Brevard to the east; hopefully they have improved reception in that target area; I wonder how their night time signal is in Clermont with this new pattern?

When i reported about the old tower that is now listed being gone I was actually visiting with a friend off of SR33. I was 2 miles from the old tower site and I could not even pick the station up, 10 miles from stick with 46K power. Also along US 27 you can see the antenna farm shared with 740 and the signal is washed out in areas. The radio-locator should have done away with the old info and gone with the cp info. they got it backwards.

Thanks again for all the info; sounds as though any gains in their reception to the east is more than lost to areas to the west. I live about 125 miles from Orlando (near USF Bayboro campus in St. Pete); so I'm not that familiar with the Orlando market, but I did think that Lake county was part of that market; am I mistaken on that?

Sounds as though reception in Groveland at night could be a washout and sound as though Clermont, also in Lake county could be iffy in spots as well.

I was in Gainesville earlier this month, during the day and I was surprised that 580 WDBO puts out a much better signal into the Gainesville area than does 540- WFLF; I realize that WFLF is directional during the day as well, but with their 50,000 watts vs WDBO's 5,000 I had thought the signals were be about the same.

One thing about WDBO, they are a heritage station and seem to be consistant day and night with their signal, news, weather and programming.
