I remember WARM and WILK having Valentine's promotions
where they gave a box of candy away per day, then for
the grand prize a night at Mount Airy Lodge or Cove
Haven with the heart shaped tub or champagne glass. Then
of course there were the old combined Valentine's Day/
President's Day Cherry Pie promotions Jim Ward used to
run for Kurlancheek's in Duryea.

I always thought a "Take my wife....please" contest
might be amusing. Or "trade him in, Jim" contest where
you actually try to give away your spouse for Valentine's
Day would be twisted.

The most horrible contest I have EVER participated in was one in which the listener sent in Valentines to their favorite DJ. The PD, a crazy dude name of Bob Woody, was also the Sales Nazi and the morning man, and needed reassurance that he was the most popular. Scotty Young was doing afternoons at the time, I believe, and gave Woody a run for his money. Everybody else ended up looking like crap. I don't remember who won but it sure wasn't me! (most of my listeners couldn't write anyway...still can't)

Worst one for me was to promote the "Yellow Book." We picked a name at random from the "Yellow Book" listings and announced it on the air. Call in the alotted time after hearing your name and you got some sort of gift certificate, can't remember exactly what. Keep in mind, these are not regular listeners or even people who had to register to win....just names at random from the phone book.
After the 4th straight day of NO WINNERS on ANY DAYPART I fixed it with my cousin to call in.

The Worst Contest Under Bob Woody At 13-Q Had To Be A Call-In To Win A

Slice Of Pizza (That's Right, A Slice) From Some Newly Opened Sponser, Where

You Had To Sing Along With "Shut Uppa Your Face" To Win.

I Had Finished My Shift And Jimmy Coles Was On The Air. He Asked For Caller

Number 3. The Phone Rang Twice And That Was It. So I Jumped On The

Production Room Phone And Made Believe I Was a Caller From somewhere

In The Mid Valley Named "Joey".

When We Needed A Laugh "Joey" Would Show Up At Other Times At 13-Q

And Also Appeared Later When We Migrated To WILK With Joe Montione.

Ohhh The Days Of Fun Radio!

The worst thing I ever heard was back in the early '90's
I can't remember what station it was, but the Midday guy would eat his lunch live on the air. If you guessed correctly what he was eating you won a bottle of Russian Dressing.
