Glad to hear it. I was just thinking the other day that some of the more uptempo and newer additions to the station didn't sound well with the old "liner only" imaging. 105.5 is absolutely sounding like the former "Warm/Magic" at 94.9. Thank goodness they're not calling it The "NEW" 105.5 WDUV.... ;D
Frankly, I would rather it go back to it's original format of mostly instrumentals with 4 vocals an hour... Back when the Nelson family owned it... Just sounds too generic and like too many other stations now...
Personally I much rather listen to all traditional plush instrumental beautiful music which was previosuly heard on WDUV when it was on 103.3 and broadcasting from Bradenton. However, as with anything, times and taste change, and traditional beautiful music no longer attracts the coveted adult 25 - 54 / adult 25 - 49 which is the demo all the major ad agencies buy. Interestingly I still fall within the adult 25 - 54 demo.
I would agree with the comments above that the plush music of the past was much more preferable on The Dove, but unfortunately that's not where radio is.
A station playing traditional beautiful music like the former WDUV would be nice. When one of my aunts would be babysitting me as a kid WDUV was what was on in the car. 103.3 and then 103.5 which lasted for a few years until the swap with WTBT.
The Dove and 98.5 KTK have been the only two stations I really listen to anymore. Sometimes I have it on True Oldies 106.3. The station is still nice to listen to though, like the selection of softer classics from ABBA, Roberta Flack, The Carpenters and Lionel Richie.
1) Except for the lack of people on the air, WDUV now sounds pretty much like an AC station from the early to mid-eighties when AC was really catching on. It reminds me of WEZS in Richmond, WLTW in NYC, and WLTJ in Pittsburgh among others. That is still 30 years ago. AC has pretty much replaced B/EZ in elevators and stores.
2) Anne Kelly seems to be live on both stations. I have heard her give current weather on AM drive on the DOVE and PM drive on MAGIC. That is worse than the 9 hour shifts on the Point. She has to be Vt'ed at some time? Anybody know? Cox could have kept Corey Dylan for one of those stations.
She can handle both shifts. It's just like a traffic reporter working both drive times. However, I doubt she's there for either of the full shifts (6-10 and 3-7). Voice tracking is absolutely being used. And yes, you can pre-record weather as long as someone responsible is monitoring the conditions and knows to pull it if something changes. Being that were talking about normal business hours, that shouldn't be that big of a deal.
