Contract Obligations re STERN

If a station has a contract for Stern affiliation, are they obligated to pick up the replacement talent for that market? Or are all contracts on calendar year basis and so a pickup with new talent Post-Jan 1 would be case-by-case?

Doesn't seem fair to HAVE to take (or pay for) an unproven talent if you signed a big deal and expect the Stern audience size in return....??

Great question. It probably boils down to the language. Maybe if it says "The Howard Stern Show" or "Howard Stern" specifically, then stations can get out.

That said, all the changes Infinity announced were for Infinity stations. No stations like Entercom's KISW has either had Adam Carolla rammed down their throat or another replacement named.

I still think Infinity is going to pull the live plug from Howard before his last vacation starts in late December. Probably once they get all the inventory sold out and people signed on the dotted line, so THEY can't pull out.

Some stations have already dropped Stern after their contracts ran out. For the last year, Stern/Infinity has not been renewing any expiring contracts for non-Infinity stations.<P ID="signature">______________
