Convential TV Revenue Declines--StatsCan

Maybe it wouldn't be declining if there was actually something worth watching on conventional TV. And maybe proper investment in local news like in the United States would help attract advertising dollars. Conventional TV, if it is to survive, has to do what pay TV cannot do, and Canadian broadcasters generally don't program enough local programming to make it competitive enough nowadays.

Interactive television is a possibility, but that can be done just as easily with cable. The biggest competitive advantage conventional, OTA television has in the United States is that HDTV over-the-air is the highest quality HD, far better than cable or satellite. Hopefully Canada will follow.
