Cool 102

Over the years, this board has provided a good number of posts about Cool 102. While the station was once certainly Classic Rock, its format has evolved. One interesting voiceover on the station gives a sample of music from the last 5 decades, advertising the fact that Cool plays songs from such a wide span. How would one describe Cool's current format? I would no longer call it Classic Rock. It does not seem to fit the definition of AC, although by default, I guess that is where it would fall. Any opinions?

There's a station on XM that is on the same wave lengh as COOL is right now. I think "The Cafe". Although COOL 102 is one of my favorite radio stations I hate to admit I have nt been paying much attention but I do know what your talking about.I heard the promo myself.

It's Sad to see that one of the only 2 so called Classic Rockers that hit Providence has strayed from truly Classic Rock. WZLX being the other.Lessons the chance of a Providence Classic Rocker.

B101 does does lean somewhat towards a classic rock edge but cheats the listener on playing the radio edit or 45 version.

So I hate to say it Classic Rock and oldies in format has died and has been re-incarnated as Classic hits with a tease of Barry White and Barry Gibb sprinkled in.

It's listed as "Classic Hits" (not Classic Rock) with Arbitron, which is pretty much what it is, but also with a AAA lean to it for some of the more recent music that they play. It's almost like a classic-based AAA, as opposed to WMVY which is a more eclectic current-based AAA.

They recently had a job listing posted seeking air talent with either Classic Rock or AAA experience.

Yes, its format can be described as AAA, but as you pointed out, it is a Classics-leaning AAA format. Nonetheless, the station is extremely unique, and those in Providence and on Cape Cod are lucky to be in the listening area.

I believe that is the station where former midday co-host on Cool 102, Kathy Carter works now.
