Cool 98.3 (Late 1980's SWFL Oldies Station)

Anyone remember "Cool 98.3" in Southwest Florida area from the mid to late-80's?
If so, anyone have any call letters or info about them?

WCOO Immokalee....They are now WAFZ-FM, on 92.1 after WRTO 98.3 in the Miami area upgraded power from 6,000 to 100kw in the early '90s.
At first, WCOO was an affiliate of SMN's "Kool Gold" network, playing pre-Beatles Oldies...But around '91 or so they went to a local, jockless automated format and called themselves the "Magic Communications Network"...For a while, this "Network" was also heard on WMIB/1480 in Marco, which in late '91 returned to the air after a long period dark..I remember them playing some pretty rare stuff, like "SOS" by Abba or "Rubberband Man" by the Spinners...They had a heavy 70s lean which was uncommon for an Oldies station in 1991....
I don't know what happened but by May '92 on my next visit, they were on 92.1, still as WCOO simulcasting the short lived Spanish format on WKZY out of LaBelle (now WFSX Estero)...A succession of formats followed, and, like I said, it is now "Radio Fiesta" WAFZ-FM.

Yes, this station was playing a lot of doo-wop, 50's, & early 60's rock & roll oldies that wasn't playing on WOLZ Oldies 95.3 at the time.

Flash forward to today, it is kind of weird to have 91.9 The Call be in such close proximity on the dial to this new Spanish 92.1 today, as these 2 stations are fighting for signal dominance on my FM radio from Lehigh Acres.

Thanks for all the info, radiosanchez!

They (at least WMIB 1480) were owned by the late Terry Lee Trunzo of Pittsburgh. I built him a studio next to the 1480 transmitter. Everything ended when Hurricane Andrew came through in August of 1992.
