"Cool Duck" going back to "The Quake"?

Hmmm, notice that Don Wilson is back with KYTN. He has been with them (and their forerunner station, WALR) off and on since about 1980, when he was in high school. Wasn't "the Quake" really his "baby"? That may be the case, but I don't see Tinkle allowing that. Doesn't he hate hard rock? Anyway, I see it listed on that link as being at 105.7 and 107.9, the latter of which I believe is one of the Thunderbolt stations' new translator frequencies.

Is Thunderbolt doing anything yet with the translator on 91.5 in Union City that they bought from WAY-FM? The last time I was through UC and could check there still wasn't anything there yet. Or has it been moved to another frequency?

With WASL in Dyersburg and WYNU in Jackson, it will be interesting to see which direction this "New Quake" takes. I don't know exact what format they have settled on, but the old "Quake" served a very small niche.

Didn't the previous Quake play a lot of local artists?

Yes, and I think they leaned more "Active" rock. WASL has a local show going right now too.

Oh, and for the record, I'm not a critic...just wondering what format you're going to settle on and wondering how you convinced Paul to green light it. :p

Have you heard it yet? It rocks!

I heard "Hey There Delilah" and "Viva La Vida" within a span of 10 minutes. I'm just sayin'. ;D

Say, where are your voice-tracks coming in from?

NSCC

So, I listened to "The New Quake" and then switched to SL 100 on the way home last night.

There are some obvious playlist differences but, other than their Facebook hype, "The New Quake" sounds very similar to WASL.

Not exactly "rock." I looked at WCMT's web site earlier this week, and so far, no hint of a change at "the Duck." For anything to "change" at the Thunderbolt stations, it has to be Paul's idea. "Good times in the morning" was his idea! ::)

I see responses on your FB discussion board...didn't see one for this question. :-*

So, is "The New Quake" going to be live just 4 hours a day and then back to satellite or will you be inserting voice tracks from local jocks.

And seriously, I've got to know how you got Tinkle to sign off on this? Kudos for letting you guys play Tool and Slipknot...I never thought I'd see the day. ;D

What is the Facebook link for this? I've been searching Facebook myself, but haven't been able to find any of this.

Search for "The New Quake"...you should be able to find it.

That did it. I had been searching for "Quake" (occasionally "the Quake") and "WQAK," and "the new Quake" finally brought it up.

I personally don't like this type of music (maybe if I were (at least!) 20 years younger!), but I hope the station does well. Otherwise, they may never get another chance like this.

I see that John Watts (Paul's stepson) is manager there, so I wonder if that had anything to do with it.

Don Wilson is about the only member of the original Quake staff still there. Wonder what happened to the rest of those guys.

And I don't know if any "Quakers" are reading us here, but if so, don't be offended about the mentions of SL-100. It's some sort of unwritten rule or law that we must mention SL-100 in every thread here! ;D

I had been searching for an answer as to how Tinkle would green-light a station that plays Pantera and Tool...I think I just found it.

Seriously, I listened again on Monday...the music is fine. In order to really stand out is to be extremely local and I don't know if they will be able to pull it off. I hope they can figure out a way but, after a few listens, they've gotten off to a slow start.

You didn't know that? Glad I could help you out! ;D If you have any answers to my queries about what the guys from the original Quake are up to now, please post away. I know that Robin Francis returned to KF-99 for a while, because I heard him on the KF when I passed through there back in 2002, but I don't know what he is up to these days. I know that he managed the local TV station there for a while, but don't know if he is still involved with them or not. The others, I have lost track of, as well. But then again, I don't live in northwest Tennessee anymore.
