Cool Edit - External Control

Has anyone figured out how to configure Cool Edit Pro/Adobe Audition to start recording on a new file after an external button is pressed? I want the operator to be able to press one button on the console once to answer the phone and start recording.
 
At one time when Cool Edit was published by Syntrillium in Phoenix, there was an external USB box (The "Red Box") that had all the familiar tape transport controls. Not that this bit of history does you any good now, but if you ever come across one...keep it! Then it would be fairly easy to do what you want. Any USB design guys out there? How about some code for the parallel port ;D

We have several red box's. :)
 
At one time I had considered hacking into the keyboard...but that's not exactly an easy way to do it. Especially when it's time to replace that keyboard.
 
You can try the X-keys. This is a programmable USB interface which copies the keys on your keyboard. They heve remote panels including keys or just plain interface cards which can be connected to your console.www.x-keys.com is the address, we use them in our news-recording setup for about 5 years now.Jens

We did that a couple of years ago. Decoded the matrix. I've got it stashed somewhere, but it's only for Cherry-type keyboards with specific IC... We used it to remotely start/stop CoolEdit (by triggering spacebar).Regards,Goran Tomas

I've never used one of these, but if I remember correctly, they also allow you to assign simple sequences of button pushes to keys. You might for example be able to create one button that closes the old file, selects the sample rate and starts the recording on a new file with it.
