Cool Edit Pro/Windows update

When windows automatically updates me it screws up my settings on Cool Edit Pro. For example, I noticed one day my voice tracks were at 320 KBPS the next day they're 34. Why?? I have to then use restore on xp, but then are the updates taking effect?This is interminnent. Can someone explain and is there anything i can do?
 
I never had a problem with Windows Update affecting Cool Edit Pro
or Adobe Audition, but I have had problems with staff using the
production computer and changing settings without notifying anyone.
 
I'm gonna agree with m_c. A problem that comes up with Cool Edit sometimes is that it remembers the last settings. If a jock changes them then they're changed when you open them. Also, though, if you open a spot at a different sample rate than usual, Cool Edit may remember that and will make the changes when you save something.
