"Cool TV" Coming To Providence

LIN TV eh? Looks like it's also going to available in Hartford/New Haven on WTNH or WCTX. Question is, will the cable operators pick it up? And, will it be worth it?

What is on 8.2 and 59.2 anyways? I only know that WFSB and WVIT have their weather channels and WTXX (i mean WCCT) has This TV. And whats on 61.2

WTIC-TV (FOX) channel 61 doesn't have any subchannels.

WFSB 3-2 is their "CBS 3" service geared towards Springfield, MA. WFSB 3-3 is Eyewitness News NOW, which also simulcasts their news and rebroadcasts their public affairs programming. It was also used as an overflow channel recently when the US Open tennis match fell on a Monday. WFSB 3-4 is a rebroadcast of WFSB 3-1 but with commercials inserted for Fairfield County viewers. It also has a lousy looking picture quality, as if it was bit starved.

The last time I checked, WCTX-TV 59-2 was the Doppler Radar of sister station WTNH-TV (ABC) channel 8, a.k.a. NEWS 8.

Is this gonna be like the now-gone "Tube" music network? I actually miss it a bit. I remember it was on WLVI-DT 56-2. I hope Cool TV comes to Boston.

That's cool. I already get THIS-TV from Boston. So I wouldn't want a duplicate channel. So "COOL TV" works for me. I hope it's good.

Thanks....

Wow WFSB really uses their sub channels with CBS 3 for Springfield and I knew about that extra feed for Fairfield but I thought that was just on cable and not on a sub channel of WFSB. Getting back to the CBS 3 Springfield, I thought their was channel in Springfield for CBS 3 it was channel 67 analog.

And I believe it is still low-power channel 67 analog - but why not fold it into your digital channels if you can? Wow, three different feeds of WFSB under one roof - neat...

I recall reading in the article that it would focus on newer music. So perhaps the only similarity "Cool TV" will have with "Tube" is that they'll both be round-the-clock music video channels... but that's where the similarities end.

I would have a hard time believing that the WFSB digital signal is even watchable in Fairfield County, which makes it kinda pointless to have 3-4 broadcast OTA.

Just checked. Regarding these CT channels, nothing.

Doesn't surprise me. Most stations have at least something on their sub channels such as a weather channel or This TV or RTV. Weather is already covered well by Eyewitness News Now and NBC CT's Weather Plus if it is still called that.

I would imagine the point of the DTV feeds is to feed cable systems. It's a LOT cheaper than running a fiber-optic line from Hartford to Springfield/Fairfield. If you can pick up a few OTA viewers in the process, why not?

My information is that analog 67 OTA is still on the air. That transmitter has a permit to switch to digital operation on channel 21. (my database shows a subchannel on the Springfield LP transmitter, which suggests that I heard at one point the Springfield digital transmitter is on the air) The FCC has recently launched a proceeding towards requiring LP stations to go digital, almost certainly sometime in 2012.

I might guess the Fairfield Co. subchannel is intended for reception at a Fairfield Co. cable headend, which is likely to be located in the northeastern part of the county -- likely to get better OTA reception than most county residents.

The channel is already seen in other markets. And the name is The Cool TV. I have seen it and its alright their isn't a music format as MTV Hits is CHR just to use as a example. I wouldn't want to hear a hip hop song and then John Mellencamp. So as far as music format its all over the place hip hop song into a classic rock song.
For a rotation of music videos on this channel:

Hip Hop
Hip Hop
John Mellencamp
rock band named Bond (never heard of)
commerical break
Janet Jackson
Rihanna
Lil Jon

Good to know Mellencamp is still going strong! Heart attack nearly killed him sixteen years ago!
