COOL TV down to only 3 affiliates. What the??????

It's true. Once the Journal lawsuit went through and Sinclair's mass dumping dealt them a deathblow, all the other dominoes fell with McGraw-Hill stations dumping it when Scripps bought it, then Nexstar dumping it when they got Newport, and then when LIN TV made a deal for Bounce, along with the network putting infomercials all over the place, that was it. I'll be surprised if it lasts to the new season.

We are lucky to have KVOS 12.2 as TheCoolTV. It's a goner, just like The Tube back in 2006-07. Wouldn't be surprised to see Bounce TV taking over our MeTV affiliate's subchannel soon. And it's turned into little music and more Time-Life infomercials. Unbelievable!

Isn't that the main channel?

It's the perfect time for some company to resurect "The Box". Heck, it worked on LP translators before HD, now they could get full DMA HD signals!

KVOS' main subchannel is MeTV (formerly independent). The .2 subchannel is TheCoolTV, which is one of the last three left...

There's no such thing a "Main Subchannel." The .1 is your Main Channel, which is the only channel that will be made available on dish or DIRECTV under current rules (unless the station can somehow work out a deal).

The ATSC standard specifies major and minor channel numbers. Using the above example of KVOS 12.1, "12" is the major channel number and "1" is the minor channel number. The word "subchannel" is used as a substitute for the minor channel number. "12" is the channel, and ".1", ".2", etc. are the subchannels. The .1 subchannel is referred to as the "main" subchannel because when one enters the major channel number into the remote/TV, it will default to that subchannel, however, there is no difference between that subchannel and any other. Furthermore, the .1 subchannel is only a virtual designation; it is not necessarily the first program in the data stream.

As for cable or satellite carriers, there is no requirement that they carry the .1 subchannel; FCC rules stipulate only that they must carry at least one subchannel. It can be any one that they choose.

Is this true? The Cool TV has lost all of it's affiliates but 3.https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Cool-TV/114936038518251#

The link in the quoted message is not for the official Facebook page for the Cool Music Network (TheCoolTV).

It's a mirror for their Wikipedia article:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Cool_TV

And Cool TV used to be in my market, until the whole Journal thing happened. While I do respect a channel that actually plays music videos, I always hated their presentation. The picture quality was bad, the imaging was cheap and instead of well-known original videos, they often opted to play some rather stale and dull concert footage of those songs instead. It was a pretty dreary channel. Not sure which subnet will fizzle out first, either Cool TV or RTV.

At least the Country Network has a far better on-air presentation.

I never got it on cable even though I'm in market (Journal only gave their subchannels to Time Warner Cable until now when they're in a long fight with them), but their videos never compelled me. It was either the artists only liked by Lite FM stations, the same 40 songs everyone tolerates from the 1970's, or rap music. It definitely wasn't the best channel.

As for the Country Network under Zuus Country? I don't see that long for the world either because they're also inserting random infomercials in here and there now.

Considering that CoolTV is down to three affiliates, all owned by small, non-notable companies, I would still put my money on them.

And hopefully after that, Live Well and ZUUS Country.

Pretty soon all the subchannel networks will wither away! Then the broadcast industry will wonder why more people aren't cutting the cord with all the wonderful choice digital offers them.

No, I think right now the marketplace is trying to sort itself out in regard to subchannel networks. Along with some failures (Tube, Cool TV, RTV, etc.) are some success stories (MeTV, Antenna TV, Bounce, This, Movies!, etc.). Over time, these channels will get better, and likely new compelling subnets will come along that are bankrolled well and don't look amateurish.

And don't just run a bunch of cheap reruns and old movies all day long.

Those old reruns are still better than those "original programs" Live Well airs. I don't consider low-budget barter syndication ("Laura Mackenzie's Traveler") and imported Canadian talk shows ("Steven and Chris") as "fresh programming."
