Heard Van Morrison's Moondance on KAAM around 0645 this morning.

It's much better than the male vocalist singing a Chrystal Gayle song about putting on makeup that I here on there sometimes. ;D

I think the Crystal Gayle song being covered by some male vocalist is called "When I Dream."

Primarily, this post was to compliment them for playing Moondance.

By the way, it is "Wild Night" ... not "Wild Nights" as titled.

A great song, but there's something troubling about the music of my youth becoming the "Music Of Your Life".

It's your age troubling you, not the music.

Nah, It's not my age, it's the context. When I first heard Moondance, it was on a freeform progressive station, and was chosen for airplay by a knowlegable dee-jay who chose it because it was a good tune, well played and well produced.
Now it's being heard as part of a brain dead format, chosen only because it was popular among people who are part of a certain demographic, extruded like sausage, and surrounded by tunes that have neither the inspiration or virtuous performance of that particular song.
Now get off my lawn.

I wouldn't call "Music of Your Life" a brain dead format. It can be done with class & style. I think the song I referred as "A male vocalist singing a Crystal Gayle song about putting on makeup" illustrates the point you were making. Music of Your Life can also be a mix of gems & vapid nonsense.

You are correct, David. I heard Rag-Mop one day on KAAM, and it made my day. Another time I heard Sinatra's 'The Coffee Song" and was very pleased.
What disappoints is that there are some really great songs from the big band era, the Bee-Bop era, even the Polka Scare that I'd love to hear... but they don't get played, because creativity, inventivenes and musicianship don't seem to be part of the process of deciding what makes air. A lot of what I do hear seems to be dreck.

Some days more so than others. I really don't know how they decide which songs receive airplay.
Fridays are called "all request day" they're usually pretty good.
