Copper Thieves Hit 101.7

Down for 14 hours? That is a long time to take to go rent a generator. Or mabye it happened in the evening on a Saturday or something.

Despicable! And the general manager and broadcast engineer's worst nightmare. Hope this thief gets caught and justice is swift and generous on the sentence.

So the thieves stole the power company wire feeding the station? At least that is what the article seems to say. I'm surprised they didn't get zapped in the process.

They need to more heavily prosecute these defective excuses for human beings. And the people who buy the copper with no questions asked.

I hate these guys! when I was at 1350 they hit us 3 times when we were trying to rebuild the site and get it licensed and at the time was the near longest running STA in FCC history.

It's a very heart breaking moment when you think you are close to being done and then show up and everything you just did is gone.

'Round these parts, a lot of the scrap metal buyers are starting to require a picture ID, thumbprint, and they take a digital pic of you when you bring in a load of scrap. Hopefully this will stop some of this sort of stuff.

And yes, having all your hard work destroyed in a matter of a few hours is very depressing.

Any reason these stations don't employ guards especially during construction, seems like that cost would have outweighed the cost of replacing stolen equipment.

Many construction sites are having to do just that now. Especially when the HVAC stuff starts to arrive on site. Locally, they've had complete rooftop commercial units robbed of the copper coils inside.
