Cori James Released From The Edge 103.9

Sad news for all you Edge fans out there...

Allaccess.com reported today that Cori James of the Morning Ritual was released due to budget cuts! It's sad to see Cori go. I think she brought a lot to the morning show. Personally, I wish her the best and hope that she gets picked up by another station here in the valley soon.

Brilliant move - one guy who thinks he knows everything, has a holier than thou attitude and sometimes lets others voice an opinion...as long as they realize his is right always right, and the other whose bland delivery coupled with a holier than thou attitude (noticing a pattern here) should bring the listeners flocking in....only if they count the dead like they do in Chicago elections.

Your first line said it all Starbury - a sad day for morning Edge fans.

Wishing Cori all the best

Even sadder news for Edge fans...Drew "The Thrill Ride" Hutchinson was also let go in a cost-cutting move, which leaves Chuck and Colin treading water in the morning by themselves. The move doesn't make any sense...Drew was a radio station budget's dream. In addition to producing the morning show, he maintained their website, and produced a lot of their concerts, and certainly didn't break the bank salary wise. He worked his ass off for that station, and this is how he gets repaid. Here's wishing Drew all the best, he's one of the great people in the business.

This might be the beginning of the end for the Edge in Phoenix...or maybe the middle of the end. The station has gone downhill since Riviera took over.

Cori James...was just not a good fit for The Edge... Not that sad to see or hear her go but do wish her the best in her next job. Thrillride is a huge loss...so now we get to hear Chuck and Colin (a guy who sounds just like chuck on the air) umm ok.. Another smart move by RBG.

Come on... your the only Alternative Rock station in the market and you can't crack a 1.2 rating... it is time to blow it up and start over! no mater how many people you let go you will still never get back what The Edge once had.

They had things going really good when scott owned the station. They played deeper cuts from artists like i heard jesus of suburbia and wake me when sept ends by greenday in summer of 2004 when american idiot came out. They were playing some really cool older alt like the smiths and sex pistols. It really is a shame. They had better numbers with competition then without???What is that all about???Punk/ska show and all request lunch so marc as pd making it all mesh well then what do they do well they do the logical thing they break what wasn't broken if it ain't broke don't break it well it happens all the time today very sad to see the edge falling over the edge. Anyone know how marc is doing at Q 101 in chicago?

I agree Cori never really was a fit for the morning show. But the bigger problem is that show is shackled. Chuck is very funny, very creative, but everything sounds rushed. I know for a fact that they are instructed to keep everything under 3 minutes...? That's like telling Michael Jordan he can't shoot, he can only pass. I listen to Holmberg, and that's an example of a group of funny guys not having any shackles on them. They take bits 25-30 minutes, and they are consistently funny. I realize that might be on the long side, but I know Chuck is capable carrying a bit for more than 3 minutes. Music has become a bigger priority for the show (I'm sure instructed from above), but the music they play is horrible. This morning they played "She Hates Me" by Puddle of Mudd. WTF??? Who honestly wants to hear that song? Nobody wanted to hear it 5 years ago... Marc Young had the station musically tighter than it ever was, and he was let go, and I'll bet he'll resurrect Q101 after their failed morning show experiment. The Edge is a sad shell of its former self. Maybe simulcasting Power on 103.9 isn't such a bad idea after all.

Jeffery O'Brien has an A.M. show, here's what they said about her and the show on the air: http://www.joshow.com/listen3.html (The first minute or two). Go to "Tuesday's" show. I liked Cory so much on KUPD. I didn't like the Edge's guys and all the talk about M.A.S.H. and things from 1960 etc. so maybe her interests and theirs didn't mesh all the time, but it was budget cuts or they wouldn't have let Thrillride go either.

When riviera bought the station it was in the contract they could not flip it.Thats what i was told when i emailed nancy who is no lonegr there about it but does that still apply?

I have to say I really liked Chuck when he was at the Zone when they were talk heavy in their alt rock format. He had freedom to talk for much longer than 3 mins.

I don't know, maybe my taste in alt-rock is too common, but I generally like what I hear from The Edge. Probably these days more than ever. In fact, I think it's kind of a mistake for KUPD to posit themselves (on those image promos) as the straight-ahead-anger-rock station; it opens things up for The Edge. Anyway, I'm pretty happy with their playlist.

I don't know much about Cori, but as a listener, I think the move is good for the comedic chemistry of the morning show. I think Chuck and Colin are pretty dang funny (maybe I, too, am a holier-than-thou jagoff), and when I listen to that "half past & half-assed" news segment, it seems like Cori is the weakest link in the funny chain (and I say that as opinion, and mean nothing personal by it). I hope things play out well for her (one door closes, another opens/everything happens for a reason/crisis is opportunity, all that crap). The "That Guy"s and the internal-monologue-dog thing are funny. Of course, they'll have to get a new girl for balance, and because girl laughs are good for the soul. Finding one who's more than that, who's really funny, that's the thing.

Holmberg is genius, and I listen a lot, but The Edge in the morning's not bad, either.

I have no opinion as far as Cori goes - she used to be my "morning man" when I worked the early hours at KFYI (and she was overnights at KUPD) but I must say, I have VERY different opinions of radio stations as a pure listener for the first time in my adult life.

My boss, Jason Rose, is about five years younger than me and seems to love the Edge. We have never had a directive at work, but if the radio is ever off or turned down, Jason ALWAYS puts it on the Edge.

I am a little irritated by his choice, but can't think of a better one for our work environment. We are pretty young - until I came along - and pretty hip, but the only other choice that makes sense for all of us is Mix - if that is logical at all. BTW - Chris Parker's new company makes awesome suits - I bought one and will soon buy another!

The rotation is very tight on the Edge (not neccesarily a bad thing from a programming perspective) but the recurrents reach into the 90's. Hardly "The Edge" - even for an old man like me. I used to be a bigger fan than I am now as a pure listener (as opposed to a radio dude).

Still love and miss you all,

Jim (They Should Have Hired Me as PD of KFYI When They Had the Chance) Sharpe

p.s. Thanks for keeping my radio-info.com thread going!
