CORKS POPPING AT 2100 GOSHEN TODAY (No mudslinging please)

Looks like Russ flew into town on his US93.3 Airforce One and brought a lot of champaign!

Congratulations to Russ, Roger and Phil on a great job in Fort Wayne. They took two stations in dire need of someone who knew how to do radio and - well - did radio! Obviously AMP didnt know how radio worked in the fort if it bit them in the ass.

Looks like WOWO was the clear winner with their leap to the top of the pile. And all the K105ers are still doing well, just bruised a bit - it happens, but they will get back on their feet again.

WLDE / WMEE - WOW! Why wont WMEE go back to Adult CHR and just play the hits without all the whateverness?

Summit City finally pulled their heads out of the clouds and realized they had to wake up, and its really good to see them do just that! Congratulations on WXKE!

As for US93.3 haters, it wasnt really worth your time in the end?
I dont recall people hating the Vibe and it looks like Fort Wayne welcomed the Vibe with open arms!

Good job to all on a hard working book. Keep up chins, remember its Arbitron and monkeys are smarter than our own ratings service (sad i know) but its life!

You are right, The Vibe had a great book.

About BTU, Russ didn't change anything until late May early June so there is no way that the changes that were made are showing up in this book.

We'll have to wait and see what happens in the next couple of books before making a decision as to how BTU is doing.

Hey Quack...

Thought you didn't want "mudslinging" on this post (according to your subject). Yet you mentioned:

Obviously AMP didnt know how radio worked in the fort if it bit them in the ass.]

...and...

WLDE / WMEE - WOW! Why wont WMEE go back to Adult CHR and just play the hits without all the whateverness?

Dude... Seriously. I don't work for anybody in Ft. Wayne and have no allegiance to anyone whatsoever. But it's cool - sling mud and talk all you want. Just don't post under the pretense that you aren't about to write what you wrote. BTW, Russ may wanna refocus his PD-ness in Indy. WKLU is falling fast - and no, it's not just one book.... (that ain't mudslinging, that's a fact).

Can we mudsling next book when it flips a different way?

It is a lot easier to dismiss a "bad book" than a "good book" as a possible fluke.
Have two or three good books in a row and we'll talk success.

The title of this thread is very ironic - given the first post was a slamfest all it's own which deserves a retort, or two.

So I'm going to do as you do, oh he who started this thread ...

ANY station that gets the dust kicked off with new management/ownership and a few bucks for an 'aeroplane' will draw some initial attention and increase ratings ever so slightly. But as WKLU has shown, it's almost IMPOSSIBLE to keep that kind of momentum once people realize you are a low-budget version of their favorite station.

As the man above said, look at the Indy trends and you'll see Russ is good at generating initial 'cork popping' interest, but it's a matter of time before listeners settle back into their routine, and favorite station.

Look for Russ' next book to be even better in Fort Wayne, worse in Indy. Then the trend will fall back down in Fort Wayne. Russ will sell out stations to some other sucker for multi-millions and as he flies out of the state in his lear jet, he'll be calling us all hayseeds and flipping us the bird!

Part of my problem with ANY radio station ownership is it should be by a LOCAL resident, not a millionaire looking for notoriety and a play toy (more promos about the OWNER instead of the STATION could be a reason for slipping ratings in Indy. No one likes arrogance.)

Hope that wasn't too much mudslinging!

As you crow about U.S. 93.3, think about this: at a remote earlier this summer at a car dealership in Ligonier, three radio stations were remoting simultaneously. Froggy 102.7 (WLEG Elkhart) was there, 98.9 The Bear (WBYR Fort Wayne) was there, and U.S. 93.3 was there. The Bear had their own tent, full sound system, and that jacked-up truck they use sitting about 20 feet in the air. Froggy had a 15-foot tall inflatable frog at the roadside, a guy in a frog costume posing for pictures, and a rock climbing wall. U.S. 93.3 had...a guy. And a table. With no tablecloth. And a box.

No bumper stickers, no t-shirts, no sound system, no station vehicle, nothing.

You touched on the fickleness of Arbitron in your original (no mudslinging, please!) post, yet you crow becuase of the bump. I wouldn't be surprised if you are a BTU employee, or perhaps a disgruntled AMP or FedMed employee. You should temper your expectations a bit until you see a few consecutive good books.

And it's spelled "champagne."

Seriously, what are you talking about? Nobody claimed that WBTU had a good book. WBTU (US 93.3) doesn't do remotes. It's never done a remote at any car dealership as US 93.3. It was US 93.3 for 20 days of the recent Spring book. The naysayers give themselves away as competitors, rather than observers or critics. By the way, I'm curious as to why someone on this board thinks that Russ flies in and out of town on a Lear Jet. It costs $200,000 a month to put WBTU on the air without playing commercials. He's currently in the third month of doing it. That's hardly what I would call "raping" a radio station or not giving a community something that they can enjoy. No owners in Fort Wayne LIVE in Fort Wayne. It's a quaint idea, but just doesn't work that way. What does living here have to do with good radio? At least elevate discussion on this site to reality...not a place for competitors from the station across the street to post a bunch of hateful lies.

I don't want to get in the middle of a slap-fight (which I'm enjoying very much), but I thought I caught an on-air mention on US93 that the cost of going commercial-free was $200,000 a month.

Please, resume "not" mudslinging.

Wow...I don't even know where to begin. How about here: no wonder Ft. Wayne is one of the most bass-ackwards radio markets I've ever seen! There is no better example of why U.S. 93.3 indeed has a fighting chance against K105 (BTW. the silence is deafening from all the people who've proclaimed FedMed's invincibility in recent posts...maybe they're too busy actually TRYING to program their station after their embarrassing book to post here anymore) than the example that I have quoted above.

"The station with the most toys wins." Does anyone really think that listeners determine the value of a radio station by big trucks in the air and 10-foot frogs? How do either of those things benefit anyone? And why in God's name would you (as someone who is or has been, presumably in radio) use that as an illustration as to why you (again, presumably, knowing something about radio) have an issue with WBTU or U.S. 93.3 or Russ Oasis or whoever or whatever your issue is with? Can't you do a little better than THAT?

If remotes and big shiny station vehicles and swag are your thing. I'm sure Russ will deliver some of those things, in time. Right now, if I were him...I would be much more concerned about delivering on listener benefits and expectations -- and building a sales staff (they WILL have to start playing commercials soon) that (unlike many other stations in town, apparantly) knows better than to waste their time inking car dealer remotes...sending their jocks out every Saturday lined up next to two or three other radio stations yukking it up with each other and waiting to pass out yitzies to listeners that don't care, and for the most part, don't come -- never mind actually purchase a car.

If I'm at 2100 Goshen, you're d*mn straight I'm popping corks right now...because (people like) you and others in this thread are programming my competitors! Keep sitting there and "crowing" about how much money evil Russ has, how he transports himself to and from Ft. Wayne, how it's all just a gimmick, and how the mighty K105 will never fall...and they're going to need refill on champagne over there before you know it!

Accuse me of being Russ or a disgruntled ex-FedMed employee if you want (it seems that anyone here that speaks up against K105 is immediately labeled as such -- and for the record, as I have stated in this forum before..I am neither) but...it doesn't make me any less right...

Man, it must stink to work at a company like FedMed that had such a horrible book (sarcasm)! 5 of the Top 7 stations in the market, I would hate to work for a company like that who wins all the time...

I agree, man it would really suck to have to work for a company that rules the roost year in and year out! I also do not believe that U.S. 93.3 has a chance of going up against K105 either. K105 has more money, more shiny pretty vehicles and toys and also what means the most, they have jocks that are good, interesting to listen to and don't screw up on the air on a regular basis. The jocks at K105 are loved, the jocks at 93.3 are not well known and not interesting enough to attract a new audience or take listeners from K105. Spend a day listening to both stations and you will see that the difference between both stations is not even remotely close. 93.3 sounds like a small town radio station with high school and college kids pulling airshifts, where you have real pros pulling entertaining airshifts at K105.

Comparing 93 to 105 is like comparing vegas hookers to pole dancers in Fort Wayne, its just not even close!

Are you ACTUALLY trying to suggest that no one over there is a little worried about their job right now (to a greater extent than any given FedMed employee is fearful for their job)?? MEE is a joke, and K105 is on its way there. They are being reactive, not proactive...and that is always the beginning of the end.

PREDICTION: Programming change at K and/or MEE by the beginning of the fall book. It *should* be "un-voluntary" but I look for one or more resignations soon. Roll your eyes if you want, but remember that you heard it here first!

So what you are saying is that K has one bad (not really that bad) book and that means programming change????? [EDIT]

#1 country station in the market for more than 10 years now...changing programming makes sense...do you work for Artistic or something??? Sounds like something they would do...

I think we've all just met 93.3's newest board op.

Fort Wayne radio is about as predictable as Keith Edward's hairstyle. (Slam on Indiana's Newscenter as well...a 2 for 1 post!!)
FedMed is going to come unglued soon if they don't throw some zip into their playbook (espcially the Bear and the Fort...the sh!t only works for so long and then you need a change...Billy E. are you listening????)
--- For the record, I am a long-gone former FedMed employee without a grudge... ---

Everybody else needs to pile on and take down the big guys and then we'll REALLY have something to laugh about in here.

Pillage the mothership!!!! ARRGHHHHH!!!!

Pillaging the mothership is only worthwhile if the alternative is better - in this case - I don't see it. The "little guy" in this case is simply mimicking the "big guys." There is a reason the "big guys" are BIG GUYS! You can debate it with "radio insiders" all you want, but the LISTENERS, who don't care who owns the station, ultimately make the choice. Fewer commercials in not that big of a deal in the day and age of dial surfing. People driving will not sit through a song they don't like - just like a commercial break - when there are one or two alternatives available at the push of button.

Trying to force-feed a format that already exists, in multiple, hurts ALL the stations airing that format. But will not OVERTAKE the granddaddy already owning the larger share.

Format changes always result in a bump in ratings, but like the latest shakeup in Indianapolis, it tends to settle back where the little guy kicks, screams and yells, yet still loses any ground intially gained. The latest trend in Indy backs this up despite futile attempts by the owner and his board ops on this forum to prove otherwise.

The Ho is back? Where did you go Ho? Figured you were banned for life or some radio exec finally tracked you down in a back alley some where. Must say my days at work in the old office cubicle have been a lot less entertaining without reading your latest problems with the radio industry.

I have heard Fed Med is buying Clear Channel Defiance under the name Fallen Timbers Broadcasting. Has anyone else heard this? They will move WFGA into the Defiance building so it will in sense give them
