Corner Gas US Syndication

I am a US resident who became hooked on the quirky Canadian comedy Corner Gas when it began to run here on WGN America.
WGN has however relegated this show to a 4:30AM Tuesday time slot, which does not really mesh well with my current lifestyle.
Does anybody know if or when this series will be syndicated to other cable or local stations in the US? (or is it just a fiendishly
clever plot to get us to shell out for TiVO?)

Glad you like it. They finished the series recently (just a few months ago) so there won't be any new episodes. I think it ran for 4 or 5 seasons. If you have the equivalent to our Comedy channel, I'd look for it to turn up there - that's where we see it now in reruns.

At least for the summer, CTV still airs the show here as well as their co-owned Comedy.

The series is available on DVD. You could lo0k into that as an option.

Though for that, you may have to buy online from a Canadian dealer or eBay (look out for bootlegs) -- I don't think any American dealers are carrying it.

Thanks, eh? ;)

I had heard about this show from business contacts in Canada years before I had
ever seen it. It is really different. In trying to describe it to people here, the closest
I can come is it's a sort of a mix between Green Acres and The Andy Griffith Show.
I also found it to be an amazingly "clean" program for a 21st. Century product. I am
hoping that once WGN's exclusivity runs out it will turn up on other stations down here.

As much as I've liked WGN America's changes in the last year or so to more retro programming, I hate that they pushed Corner Gas back to extremely early mornings and replaced it with Bob & Tom. I'd love to see some other cable network pick it up. Perhaps another option would be to sell it to PBS stations like is being done with The Red Green Show. Red Green and Corner Gas back to back would be great.

yes, especially if they could pick up some old SCTV episodes and do a whole Canadian
Block (like the Britcom Blocks that WQEX in Pittsburgh used to run)

I think the current rights to SCTV are in the hands of CTV Canada (airing on Comedy network), therefore making it possible for Comedy Central to have the best chance of picking up rights to the show in the States. (in exchange for rights to carry some comedy central programming, I'm guessing...)

I went right to the show's website and bought a season's worth of episodes for my wife on her last b-day. She got hooked when we were on vacation last year and had WGN America at the place where we were staying. Ironically, where we live in the Chicago area, it's 100% invisible. Nowhere to be found on the local version of WGN or anywhere else.

I think it's more like Seinfeld set somewhere in middle America.

...but with the maple leaf instead of the Stars and Stripes.

The two police officers definiitely remind me of Andy and Barney Fife.

I also like the little bits of self-effacing humor that they drop in....like Eric Peterson
trashing shows that he used to appear in, or the time they were all sitting
around watching "Slam Dunk Monkey, the very best of the animal sports movies!"
(clearly taking a jab at Nancy Robertson and her work in Air Bud). Sort of how
Lisa Douglas would comment that her only real talent lay in "doing Zsa Zsa Gabor
impressions".

Not to mention cameo appearances by two Canadian PM's! You would never see
that happen here. At least leaders in your country are willing to be open about the fact
that they are performing in a comedy.
