Corporate Promotion-ola and Madonna

Remember last decade when the NYS attorney general went on a tear about Payola? Attacking the fundamental basis on why a station or broadcast company plays a song at all and how often, i.e. no corporate benefit, no employee benefits of trips, tvs, money, super bowl tickets etc. But it's ok and legal for a company to enter into a promotional relationship to play a song every hour on the hour on all their stations and we're supposed to believe there is nothing of suspect going on, nobody is really making anything off this??!!

I thought that WAS pretty suspect. Madonna has a 360 deal with Live Nation, which was a Clear Channel subsidiary until 2005.

But the really telling part was that after the song, the CC national voice started in to: "Pre-order Madonna's new album MDNA now, for a special low price this weekend only, at itunes.com/madonna." At that point it's pretty much an ad.
