Corpus Christi market loses a station..

Apparently 103.7 KXAI aka Air One is moving and downgrading. the station is moving to Balcones Heights (aka San Antonio) as an "a". In order to facilitate this KBPO San Marcos will Move to Austin and Downgrade to a C-1.. Also EMF will slightly downgrade KMJR 98.3 Odem and change frequencies to the vacated 103.7. Bottom line ...98.3 in Corpus goes away. And a small 103.7 moves to SA.

103.5 Bob FM is moving into Austin and abandoning their tower near San Marcos as far as I'm aware...

I Hope This Isnt A Mistake 103.5 Is Very A Vacant Signal In Texas They Should Stay 100KW

This is about more than 103.5... it is about protecting adjacent and second adjacent channels.

KMJR sounded like crap yesterday when I heard it, was playing Radio Nueva Vida with a loud humming sound in the audio like the engineer who set that up isn't good or experienced. It sounds like the humming on 93.7 in San Antonio did when it was on.

I'm wondering if 98.3 is really going away. This app for 98.3 was accepted in February, granted in April, and it's on 98.3 FM.

The app for KMJR to move to 103.7 was accepted before the one to stay on 98.3, and was never granted.

I also heard the humming behind Radio Nueva Vida's programming continuing the other night during cloud cover...

So is KMJR's future doomed with a loud hum?

That doesn’t make sense for Emmis to do this unless money is that tight and they think they’ll save on their electric bills.

The move, although with lower power, delivers more population coverage in the Austin MSA than the old facility. This is an upgrade.

The cost of building a new site, including legal, permits, labor, new equipment, riggers, etc. is hundreds of times the savings on the electric bill.

Since much of FM's "power" is achieved with antenna gain and not transmitter power, savings are small. A 100kw H&V FM can achieve that power level with a 40 kw transmitter. The "gain" is in focusing the power in a horizontal field, not in raw power.

I know it makes sense to do what is best for the bottom line, but KBPA moving into Austin sucks for us DXers! Not only is the station an easy catch throughout East Texas, but it also has a great format that's a joy to catch.

I was able to listen to the station most of the day around Houston today. The signal was no worse than KVST's signal is in the heights. Sad to know this won't be the case for much longer if the FCC approves the shuffle.

The humming on KMJR seems to be gone, luckily for them. I might be able to hear a slight noise, but most of it's not there all loud like it was a couple months ago.

I can still hear the hum, I take that back. This sound is played nonstop on KMJR, luckily it's quiet than previously but still there slightly.

It's worth saying that a few minutes ago the station was silent, and when programming returned so did the extra electric current noise. So something's probably slightly wrong at the source of Radio Nueva Vida.

I'm not even sure these moves are happening after all.

That is a modification of 98.3 to stay on 98.3 it looks like. The app was filed on 2/19, after the moving app was filed on 2/07 so was the moves canceled?
If 98.3 doesn't move, the others won't am I right.

This changes the license from Commercial to NON commercial. If anything it reinforces this will happen. It also will save on regulatory fees, which are coming soon... L:)
