Corpus Christi translator info

Radio Locator is not always correct w/ translators.

93.5 is owned by "Lisa Lopez" and "Rebroadcasts" (ha ha) KXTM, allegedly "OFF the air". Station is actually pretty listenable as "La Isla".

KMIQ has tried to improve their Corpus Christi City Coverage by utilizing on channel booster KMIQ-FM1 with a towering 4 watts and a blistering coverage radius of 2.75 KM.radius.

K232DE is owned by Benavides and translates 1510 KROB.

KXTM has a CP for a booster at the KMIQ transmitter site in Agua Dulce. KXTM really doen't make it to COrpus CHristi. They're using DSL I believe. They're also running KXTM out of the KMIQ studios I believe.

Not that it really matters but in their renewal application filed last month K232DE is shown to be rebroadcasting KMIQ; likewise the renewal app for K228XM does in fact list KXTM as the station being rebroadcast. And yes, the FCC shows KXTM as licensed and on the air.

Seriously, what's it going to take to get at least a little enforcement on things like this? As I've said before, the FCC lets some things slide but I've learned that they really don't take kindly to being lied to.

Last time I was down there, I tuned into 93.5 and it was translating KMIQ 104.9, not 107.7.
I guessed they changed it? This was early August 2012.

Yeah when Lopez got KXTM 107.7 in Benavides, TX back on the air he started translating it on 93.5 (which by the way is still illegal since you can't own or have any association with both the main FM and the translator owner). I've tuned in a few times and the format is pretty weird. The play a lot of English top 40 and dance and mix in a lot of Latin music in between. It's like a weird Spanglish mash up format. Half the time it's dead air. 107.7 is always off the air. Every time I have tuned in I just hear dead carrier. The audio processing on both stations is pretty crummy also. Check out their Facebook page. They write "The Best Latin Radio Station on the Planet!!!! La Isla 93.5" and a fan on their page comments back "That station doesn't even work" lol Gotta give props to one thing though...at least the Lopez family still does local radio and interacts with the community. Too bad they don't invest more in their stations down here where they work and play. Their SA stations sound 100x better then these in the Corpus Christi area. KMIQ 104.9 has never been the same since they moved it farther away from Corpus Christi. It has a horrible signal down here now. I have no idea why they'd want to move it all the way near Alice when they already had a station in Benavides, TX. Now they have two over there. They just purchased the CP for KYTO 94.3 FM

They've got good sounding stations here in San Antonio? I thought all they had were a couple translators they leased out to Clear Channel and one rimshot leased out to La Nueva Radio Cristiana. IMO that's not too local to just rent out to other operators, but it doesn't matter much.

As for the San Antonio Lopez stations, KLMO 98.9 doesn't really sound that good, and neither did 93.3 when it was Spanish Christian. Sounds like Burnal feeds his network with a 48 KBPS AAC stream or something, and 98.9 has always had this buzzing in the audio.

Now as for the present-day San Antonio 93.3 and 105.7, they sound as good as any commercial radio station would sound. CC doesn't wanna be putting out low quality audio so they're probably totally helping Lopez out with the engineering.
Just a guess.

Listened to 93.5 FM a little tonight as I'm in the Corpus area, I like this station a little, all the presentation and imaging's pretty much in English yet most of the music's in Spanish. It's mainly Spanish dance-style pop and remixes, some latin stuff that makes you wanna grab a taco and jump up and down... :p

I even heard a Dubstep song or two.

But the audio quality on both 93.5 and 107.7 (which is on the air BTW) isn't good, sounds like they're using a low-quality AAC stream to feed both stations. All they need to do is up the bitrate and they'll both probably sound perfect.
KMIQ 104.9 actually sounds great which is why I wonder what's up with the other two.

94.3 is still rebroadcasting KROB 1510, but I'm guessing they might change to KMIQ soon as they filed they broadcasted the latter radio station. Jerry could end up selling it or LMAing it out, but who knows - I'm just guessing here.

I have heard that 94.3 is pretty permanently matched to 1510. After all, 1510 is technically a daytimer (Although you would never know it.) I have heard he has declined offers to sell 94.3 as a standalone.

He should increase the signal of 94.3, it doesn't even have that great of a signal when compared to 1510. That's one thing I've noticed.
At least he fixed the audio of 94.3, I was down here when it first started broadcasting 1510 and I thought it was either some pirate or some VERY inexperienced broadcasters feeding it from an open mic. It was actually the AM signal being picked up off-air.
