Corpus Christi welcomes "JAKE"

It's an oldies station.

That's a bit of twist! Jake is an olides station (not really variety hits).
Sounds like someone is trying to get back-at-Jack?

Yeah, I noticed. But there's no Variety Hits format in Selena's hometown, unless they were trying to keep someone from going that route. Chances are that they want to break in the brand before they start adding more variety to the iPod of theirs.

BTW there's already a Oldies outlet in Corpus Christi[KMXR], so chances are that the folks over at [KMXR parent]Clear Channel are paying close attention to this latest entry.

If they have a "younger" sister/brother station...they still can go ahead with variety hits and give that a person's name as well?...Yes? NO?
______________

I don't see that working though.
If Jack FM wants to move in, they'll just use legal action
Anyone else wanting to do a variety hits format can still do one, they'll just have to be creative with the name.

That depends, but if the Los Angeles radio market can have a "JACK" and "JILL" anything is possible.

I'm still waiting for a company to co-launch a variety country and variety hits station simultaneously as Hank FM and Frank FM. :)

Re: It's an oldies station.

I look at it as a hybrid Oldies/Classic Hits station that uses Variety Hits imaging. I'm surprised it didn't go Variety Hits, considering the popularity of the format, but apparently its ownership felt that this setup was a better fit for the market.

There's nothing to stop Jack from moving in. JACK-FM is a registered service mark which can be licensed for use anywhere nationally. Consider Indianapolis, where there's Jack FM and Hank FM, one with Variety Hits and the other with country.
______________

station naming fad

Betcha in a year so, there will be so many Jack/Bob/Hank/Frank/Jill/etc.
"name" stations that fad will slow quickly (not the format but the lemming-
like guy's-first-name deal). At some point it will be confusing (for instance,
I'd never name a "Hank" AND a "Frank" in the same market).

We all remember the Q/Z/X's and so on.

We have HANK-FM in Tallahassee, Fla. It's variety hits, not country.
I don't forsee any name changes for the two country stations.
______________

Re: station naming fad

Maybe a Variety Hits station in this area can be called CHRIS FM or CHRISTI FM. Or it would be interesting to have both, like Jack and Jill in LA.
______________

CHRIS FM, aparantly will be a Religious station playing the Variety hits of a Christian nature, with some Contempory music also thrown in.
(I guess Chris is short for Christian?)
