Could a Jack FM work in Evansville?

This is a question that has bestowed man for the ages, well 2005 at least, but might the Tri State Area get to know jack? Now other "fad formats" wern't tried in Evansville with the exception of the Arrow format, that being Y107 and the reason is that the other formats didn't speak to Evansville people. Jamming Oldies? Evansville never heard those songs when they were new to begin with. 80s? Not the way everybody did it. The Cure and the Smiths were probably looked at back in the day as "f**got music" and were not likely played on Evansville radio stations(unless WUEV had some alterantive show) so no way in hell is someone gonna try that now. And even though Y107 did finally bring the Arrow sound to Evansville, it was a day late and a dollar short as even Arrow/LA would subcume to Jack in 2005.

But somehow, I feel a different situation about Jack.

Jacks are customized believe it or not for every city. In LA, we have a KROQ/KLOS mixture of music. But In San Diego, they play more pop. And other cities too. All you gotta do is research what might work even in a trainwreck setting in Evansville. And Jacks typically are designed to be Trainwrecks but in a focused way. Think of hearing say, Quiet Riot one song and hearing Faith Fill the next. Mabye throw some country crossovers next to a classic rock song and throw something pop in too and boom bang You've got a nifty Jack

I kinda wonder if South Central won't look at Jack for 107.1 if the CCM numbers don't improve. We shall see. Mabye Regent could look at this for 105.3 or 94.9 if ESPN Radio doesn't do anything.

But IMO, I see a place for Jack in Evansville. Or Bob or Ben or Max or Jill or Sam. You know what I mean.<P ID="signature">______________

I think Jack could work in Evansville if it was done right, as you said. Jack in Evansville can't be the exact same as Jack in Indy or elsewhere. It would have to be a hybrid of the city's most popular stations - a little WIKY, a little Hot 96, a little WABX, a little GBF, and even a little country. While you're at it, throw in some of the best recent music that doesn't get played much (or at all) here - Dave Matthews, John Mayer, Jack Johnson, etc.

As for who would do it, I'd say 107.1 would be the best candidate, although it might work for 105.3 as well. I don't see 94.9 dropping ESPN anytime soon. We won't know for sure until the next ratings are out, but the station has gotten great buzz and seems to be a hit with almost every guy in town. I'll be surprised if ESPN isn't on 94.9 for at least 2-3 more years.

The JACK way is to win on Cume, not TSL. The real problem facing JACK isn't if it can be a format, it's if programmed sellers can change their ways, and national buyers can too. TSL is what it's all about right now. It's the easiest way to a high AQH share. Jack has yet to show a strong TSL anywhere. Cume, yes. TSL, no. Thus, low AQH.
