Could a Mom & Pop radio station win?

I am not sure if such a operation could even get in the mix of a market too even compete?

If there was to be such a operation start up do you think they would have a chance?

You just asked the equivalent of: "How high is up?" ;D

Define "win". Does that mean "become number 1 in audience" or does that mean "make reasonable profits" or does that mean "survive".

Where? Are you talking about downtown Houston, or are you talking about some little county seat town somewhere? There are some Mom'n'Pop stations that are doing well. My observation is that they are in the right place at the right time being run by just the right people.

Can I tell you how to recognize the right place? About half the time.

Can I tell you if this is the right time? You won't know until you jump in and try swimming.

Can I tell you if YOU are the right people? About half the time.

Most can make it if they're satellite fed, and they don't have to pay any live talent. Or, in the case of K-Star, in Conroe, they have an owner who believes in live talent. They're a good example of small-market success. Larry Galla, from the old KIKK-AM days, is one of their best on-air hands.
