Could a station like Sirius Boombox work in NYC?

I love this station, and the music. Why is dance in NYC/LI not refelctive of this stuff. Electro/breakbeat is so much more innovative and fresh, than the same cheesy guido house beats that have continually failed. I think a station like Boombox would work, and be more sellable than typical house music.

Some of the mixshows on Channel 6 er...Pulse 87.7 might play music you like

Be glad that there is dance in New York City and Long Island

Yeah, I was just wondering if it would work and be profitable in NYC. I don't listen to terrestrial radio. Sirius is worth every penny. Hopefully the FCC will go ahead and approve the merger, so the stock will be worth more than a penny!

I do have Sirius, but mainly listen to "Area 33", though I have heard "Boombox". If I'm not mistaken, we've had something like this on the radio a couple of years back...Liquid Todd's "Solid State" on K-Rock.

It's a type of genre that has a cult following to it, just like "Area 33". I could see specialty shows on this but I can't see it as a full time format in NYC. At least not on the standard dial position. I say the same for "Area 33" as well. Funny with Area though...there are tracks that I don't like off the bat but for some reason, grows on me after I keep hearing it! :)

Guido House isn't typical House. Guido House AKA Outer Borough Dance (Brooklyn,Queens,Staten Island) is what Pulse 87 has decided to play.

Pulse has decided to ignore all other dance fans.

Jersey,

Is it ME? Or has Pulse been adding a lot more rhythmic pop as of late, with somewhat less on the currents? Can't wait for next week after the freestyle concert though I don't see Pulse cutting all of that out, at the intensity that they're playing classic freestyle with.

Tony,

I haven't listened to Pulse 87 in about 3 weeks. I find the station difficult to listen to. I am not within the station's target group (18-40 year old Italians in Brooklyn,Queens,Staten Island, and LI and 35-45 year old Puerto Ricans/Classic Freesyle Crowd from the Bronx and Brooklyn).

The Pulse party is closed to everyone else.

Liquid Todd is at Boombox, and does a great job. His show at K-Rock was on late on a Friday or SAt night, can't remember. But, I really believe that this format could pull a 3 in NYC. It has never been tried. They have a sweeper that calls it, "The New Alternative Music", or something like that. With K-Rock's numbers in the crapper, they may want to switch to this format. If it was my money, I would bring in Liquid Todd to program that, and start a whole new ballgame. No, I am not a friend of his, nor do I know him personally. I just have become so passionate about this music because of the channel and his show. Rock remixes, electro, never been done on a consistent basis in NYC. You would get some of the traditional dance audience, some of the alternative, and maybe some new people curious. Which, in my estimation would leave a solid 3 and a demo that fell into the $ target.

Ummm...this 41 year old Puerto Rican isn't stuck on classic freestyle. :)

There are times I WISH Pulse would realize the true potential that they have to reach out to a bigger audience with advertisers getting their just revenue for it by expanding its reach to the "world" crowd (aka: the clubbers that go to Manhattan and want the house, trance, electro material as well as other groups that are dance fans, such as Asians, the GLBT crowd. Pulse has SUCH potential, hey just gotta grab it....before someone else does (that realizes the voids)
