Could an "old hand" mean curtains for JACK?

Personally, I doubt it. My reasons;

Jack is a nebulous concept more than a format. It can evolve and change dramitically, and still be called "Jack"

Second, CBS is under pressure to show some sort of growth for the future. Jack atleast offers a glimmer of hope that it can attract younger listeners.

Third; Jack works cheap. Load him into AudioVault and go. With declining audiences, and revenue for the forseeable future, this is golden.

The big problem facing all media companies is that they are stuck with offering mass-appeal programming in an era of custom, user programmed media.

The two areas that Cos. like CBS can compete and win are; news and contemporary talk. Those won't work in an I-Pod. In that sense, firing Imus was a major blow.
