Could be Consultant and PD for Area 108

Angela Perelli could be hired as the full time PD for Area 108 early November and could be consulted by former Mix 94.1 PD Mike Marino.

For those who dont know, Mike was the original PD of KMXB Mix 94.1 and was one of the reasons why The Edge sold out and changed formats.

Angela was the PD at KYSR Star 98.7 in LA and has a proven track record with the Alternative audience. The two, have worked together at Clear Channel-LA and are are said to be proud to be working so close together.

If the rumour is true, does this mean that Mix and Xtreme will have a hard battle with two very strong PD's running one station. Being that Mike has the Vegas and Mix knowledge and Angela coming from such a strong station in LA, Mix and Xtreme may not stand a chance if the signal gets an upgrade in the next few months. Also since Mix and Xtreme both have first time PD's in the seat and seasoned vets turning up the heat at the new alternative, this may be the biggest battle both stations at Infinity will ever see.

Angela and Mike both have awesome reputations with the record lables and can easily sway the lables to add better promotional offers to the Area 108 listeners like exclusive concerts. Could those concerts be from The Killers, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Grean Day, Coldplay, Depeche Mode, Staind, Lit, Jack Johnson, Nickleback and the list goes on and on. This could also mean the end of the Mix Undergound Lounge and with the name Area 108, what will happen to Mix's Sunday feature, Area 941? Does Extreme have a chance to keep their 18-34 male listeners? What are your thoughts?<P ID="signature">______________

Jacobs Media is consulting Area 108. Angela might be a good fit as a PD.

Whatever ends up happening, THANK GOD that George "hair plug" Tobin and his idiot son Daxxy won't have anything to do with Area 108. If either of those two morons had any idea what radio was all about, The Edge may have survived the Mix/Extreme attack in the 90's. But George was too worried about trying to make another buck off Tiffany and Dax wasn't old enough to drive without a booster seat.

Here's a thought... Maybe Greg Hodges will jump ship from The ~yawn~ Point and join his former partner Jamie Osbourne to recreate the Morning Edgeheads! At least they'd be more entertaining than Milk and Toast on Mix. If my memory serves me, they did actually beat Stern in a couple of books!

Will Freddy Sankeskin return?? I'd bet John Griffin or Steve Hoffman won't be returning. Jesse?? Nope! Maybe April Lee (Tobin) finally kicked her drug habit. Groovy Doctor?

OK, I'm done reliving my Edge fantasy. Area 108 will probably be voice tracked anyway.

i worked there when it was v108/hiphop and r&b and the station had a bgi following with both audiences, but we couldnt compete because the signal sucked!!

and i should know because when i would go out onto the streets its all i heard:
"when our you guys going to fix the signal?"


you can have the best PD, the best talent, the best etc., but if people cant hear you whats the point??

I agree. Signal is everything. I think more than ever people simply won't listen to a station with a poor signal, especially with all the different options and new technology available. The idea that the demo AREA 108 is trying to reach will put up with the signal is as quaint as thinking people will adjust their "rabbit ears" in hopes of receiving a weak or distant over the air TV station. Someone on this board claimed they will boost or improve their signal, IMO this is a MUST or they will be lucky to ever crack a 2 share.

Signal aside, like others on this board, I do like the music AREA 108 plays. The best way I can put it is that AREA reminded me that alternative is one of the genres of music I like. Because EXTREME was the only ALT we had for years, I long ago decided that alternative had become my least favorite music. Because of KXTE, I just figured alternative had become far too dark and negative, that the format had devolved into a niche for ANGRY white males ages 12-24. But when I monitor AREA, I enjoy just about everything they play. I especially like some of the older ALT they play, I heard a real "OH WOW!" today...L7 "Pretend that We're Dead", I haven't heard that once since the EDGE.

Speaking of the EDGE. As many fond memories as people have of the station, the fact is the plan ARS (pre-Infinity) devised to destroy them worked, it was pure genius. MIX took the females and EXTREME took the males. Instantly the EDGE tanked from being the highest rated Alternative station in the U.S to being one of the lowest rated stations in Vegas. The landscape is still the same in the sense that MIX and EXTREME are still here. If broadbased alternative failed then why would it succeed now? Especially on a weak signal at a time period when alternative isn't very hot. I am skeptical that AREA will be much of a success, but because I like them personally I wouldn't mind at all if they prove me wrong.
