could boston be next?

With Nash FM debuting in NYC with Cumulus I had a thought. Would any of the Cumulus owned station in the New England area switch to this format? Like wokq or any of the station in Ri etc? thoughts?

country music I mean you have hot 96.9 challenging jamn, amp challenging Kiss so who is going to challenge wklb? thoughts?

They do own stations in southern and western Connecticut, with the most prominent one being WEBE-FM 107.9 of Westport ("WEBE 108"). That's a powerhouse heritage AC station (with a killer signal coming off of a UI smokestack in Bridgeport). I can't see that ever changing. WEZN-FM 99.9 of Bridgeport is also an AC station, but I think Cox owns that one.

They would be crazy to re-brand WOKQ as a Nash station. WOKQ is a ratings juggernaut in the seacoast and does very well with its own country format. I think it should be Nash trying to emulate WOKQ.

Cumulus does own a handful of stations in Worcester, WXLO (Hot AC), WORC (Classic Hits), and WWFX (Classic Rock). I think that if any of these were to flip, it would probably be WWFX, aka 100-FM The Pike. It actually was a country station years ago back in the 90s called "Q100."

WBOS Used to be (Country) wayyy back in the day. It would be nice to (again) have a Country Format in Boston with a good signal, which includes 92.9, and 105.7,
105.7 used to be Country as well.
But as I just started tos ay, it would be nice to see, if anything like this was to happen here, it would be nice to see 92.9 be Country
and if not then, 97.7 should try it?

92.9 is owned by Greater Media who also owns WKLB, these stations won't be swapping frequencies anytime soon.

To the Worcester point, yes, Cumulus does have a cluster in Worcester. IF they were to flip one of the properties, it's a Worcester station, not Boston. There would be no competition for ad dollars.

In Rhode Island, Cumulus does have one FM property that "could" possibly be negatively affected by the recent flip of 96.9....and that would be WWKX 106.3, a class "A", licensed to Woonsocket.

There's an outside chance that if hurt seriously enough, the current "live and local" programming on 106.3 could be blown up, and Cumulus....in a cost saving move...could use the "Nash" Country format to make a run at Hall's "Cat Country" WCTK 98.1 from New Bedford.

I don't think Cumulus will flip any existing stations in New England to country that don't already program it.

However, I could see Cumulus (as I think they will) launch a national, satellite-fed "Nash FM" format which will eliminate all local DJ's at all of the company's country-music stations, and be made available to other country stations in markets where Cumulus does not have a country-music station.

Thus, I don't think Cumulus will flip a Providence-area station to "Nash FM", but current country station WCTK-98.1 could be offered the "Nash FM" format.

If WWKX were to flip to Country, that would be a major mistake. Plus I don't see them ditching Rhythmic Top 40 anytime in the future.

I was thinking what if mix 104.1 flip to country they could possibly keep their key demo with females, while gaining more males as well!! Or might that eat away at the sports hub and wzlx?

WWFX is really more of a classic hits station; more similar to WROR than WZLX. From the outside, the cluster has always seemed to have two stations competing with each other in 98.9 WORC and 100 FM The Pike. All the while, WKLB has been pulling monster shares in Worcester County. Considering 98.9's lousy signal and the younger demos that country would bring in, I'd think that flipping WORC-FM would be a no-brainer.

WORC-FM doesn't have a very strong signal in Worcester or points north. I believe their transmitter is still in Webster since the days they were co-owned with WGFP-AM 940. In order to blanket the Worcester market with a country station (and I agree there is a strong base in Central New England for country music), Cumulus would need to flip 100.1 The Pike.

I take it you don't consider that 102.5 has a good signal. It's on FM-128 (or maybe the WBZ-TV tower) in Newton (or maybe it's Needham) and is very close to a full B signal. It can't move to the Pru because of an IF (10.7-MHz) problem with WUMB. As best I can recall, this is the first time anyone here has criticized a full B signal from the tall towers in Newton/Needham as inadequate. So I'm wondering what your problem is. I especially have to laugh when you lump 97.7 with the "good" signals. 97.7 is a Class A from the WGBH-FM tower on Great Blue Hill in Milton. It does quite well for a Class A, but it's not in the same league as any of Boston's Class Bs. It especially is not in the same league downtown as any Class B on the Pru.
