Could CC be bringing a CCM to Columbus?

I noticed that when Clear Channel Dayton launches it's HD-2 channels on feb 2, Mix 107.7 HD-2 will be a Christian AC station... got me wondering, the new frequency that cc is bringing to Columbus... what do you think the possibilities of that being a ccm station are? Or possibily as an HD-2 station also?

I know CC Dayton and Cbus operate completely different, but CC recently launched/reformated a station to CCM in Austin,tx and its one of few formats in cbus that they dont already cover. Although im not really impressed by the station in Austin, it would definetly give wcvo a run for its money, seeing how they are the only game in town for ccm.

thoughts?

Not very "Christian-like" to be fighting over the same audience, or money.... seems to me.

I doubt CC is all that concerned about being "Christian-like". I could be wrong. If it made money for CC, I would expect a CCM would certainly be a possibility.

Remember it is all about profits for the shareholders. As Donald Trump says "It's nothing personal, it's just business."

Christ is not the reason Clear Channel launches Christian AC stations, the station in Austin and the one I think its in OKC are there because CC was loosing their female population in the ratings (and those folks listen to AC radio) thus the formats in those markets. If Clear Channel thinks WCVO is taking away to many of their "female demographic" you will bet they will launch a Christian AC here. Besides, I forget who told me or I heard this but that Columbus, OH has always been good for Christian AC (sales or something) or one of the better markets for that genre of music.

I would not be suprised if CC did launch a Christian AC here, I am sure it would aggervate WCVO and make them have to work harder, plus it would probally annony Salem, I would not be suprised if Salem does not with that they had a FM with Fish in this market (looking at how well WCVO is doing in the arbs)

It happened here in Tulsa.

But it was Cox that put on the New Spirit 102.3 FM. www.spirit1023.com

And NO ONE saw it coming...Including us at KXOJ, the 30 year heritage CCM with a 3.9 share 12 Plus.
www.kxoj.com

That's about where CVO is 12 plus, isn't it?

WCVO is fairly up there in the ratings (wont say the # in here due to the Radio info rules but there are places you can see the 12+ for Columbus and yeah, WCVO is doing very well! I could easly see a mainstream company come along and put up some competition (specially if Salem is never able to get a decent powered FM and bring a fish to town)

Huh?

Explain why competition is unchristian.

We're not talking about Clear Channel here, but do you think Christians shouldn't go into business because it might conflict with another Christian's business? Should Christian athletes on opposing teams not play against each other? Competition tends to bring out our best and make us try harder, which typically results in a better product or a better performance. This is actually a very Christian concept as 1) we want to do our best for God, and 2) competition is the heart of capitalism, which thrives in a free and liberated society which traditional Christianity embraces. And besides, competition can be fun, especially in sports. Is there anything wrong with that?

So...

But we don't all go to the same CHURCH, now, do we??

Re: Huh?

I don't believe that "getme" was refering to competition as being unchristian, as he was that CC would only be in it for the money instead of for the ministry and changing lives. However, I see both sides...

Re: Huh?

Perhaps you are right. If so, my bad. Just seems like an odd comment then because it's a given that CC is not a "Christian" company and does not do the CCM format for the ministry and outreach.

CC Doing CCM!

Hey, I was thinking driving home tonite.. It would not be hard for Clear Channel to do CCM in Columbus, I beleive they already have a CCM library :) I remember hearing "City on A hill's God of Wonders" durning WNCI's "Pay for play back on Labor Day to raise money for Hurricane Katrina" so they have some CCM in prophet already :)

Good point Matt! Also, WNCI has played Mercy Me "I Can Only Imagine", Stacie Orrico "Stuck" & "More to Life" and also a number of Switchfoot hits. So lets see.. looks like we have about a 20 minute music sweep built up!!!
