It's certainly an interesting thought, but the dynamics might be untenable. If she were to return in a management capacity there are a couple of options: she could either replace the current DNP or replace the current Managing Editor. In either case, one of those two would be let go. The current ME primarily serves as the midday producer, so she would then take up duties on the desk and be subordinate to the current DNP. That sets up an interesting scenario since he was subordinate to her when Quimby was the Program Director at WCBS. It would seem to invite a situation where the current DNP is looking over his shoulder at his old boss.
I'm not aware of Quimby's ambitions, so she may want to step back and become a producer or writer, but that would mean joining the Writer's Guild and Quimby has been vocal about her hatred for unions.
Or she does have on-air experience, so she could certainly join the station as a reporter or anchor. But then the question becomes -- who goes? Does she replace Michael Wallace or Pat Carroll in AMDT? Pat Farnack in midday? Wayne Cabot or Steve Scott in PMDT? If she goes back to reporting then does she, by dint of her previous experience at the station, get one of the higher profile assignments? NY City Hall, replacing Rich Lamb perhaps? Or covering crime and the courts replacing Irene Cornell?
They are certainly interesting possibilities. Then again, as you point out, its likely her choice. I wonder if Quimby would even want to go back, or if she'd prefer to move somewhere else. She did work briefly at WINS before taking the job at WCBS. Or maybe she's the person to lead 101.9. I'll be fascinated to see how this will play out.
