COULD DONNY OSMOND END UP IN PROVIDENCE?

Citadel Media is syndicating Donny's midday show on AC and Classic Hits stations. So far, 60 affiliates but none named publicly yet. Forget about CC but what about Citadel Providence itself? Could Lite end up with a little puppy lovin middays?

He has a midday show? Where does he broadcast from?
 
He's about to start a midday show this month. All this talk about cutting jobs at Citadel hasn't proven to be right, not that I want it to be. Donny would be the first logical step if it had to be made.

Coincidentally, just-a-couple-hundred-yards-from where-I-write-this, at the Flamingo in 'Vegas, where Donnie & Marie perform (a KICK-ASS show). They're building a radio studio in his dressing room.

Here's the scoop: McVay Syndication put the deal together, and is partnering with Citadel and Osmond.
I've heard the demo.
He sounds REAL GOOD as a DJ.

Stations get the show either turnkey, or they can use his voicetracks in local automation with the station's playlist. One break per hour, he talks about the market. Even the rest of the breaks sound less "unobtrusive" than those DJs you hear Clear Channel pipe-in-from-somewhere-else on 101.5.

Anything is better than some of the piped-in jocks on B101 and I'm mainly talking about Marc Coppola. Even if you have to accept that CC is going to use these people, at least use someone who has something more going for him than being part of a show biz family. The guy is beyond boring.
 
Why the bash on Mark Coppola? I think if you do your research you'll find that he gets ratings as well as the rest of the jocks there. This guys been doing radio for 30 something years. Being related to a famous family doesn't insure work, plenty in many families who don't work. And which famous family are you referring to? The Coppola side or the maternal Kennedy side?

Mark Coppola would probably be fine if he was local. Being "premium choice," there's no way he can in any way relate to the local Providence market.
 
I'm sure Coppola has paid his dues. Let me rephrase by saying the job these Premium Choicers do lends itself to generically boring radio. I've heard Lisa Kerrigan is a great jock when she's live. I will say B101 blew their station up the right way. They did it gradually so by the time they reached this point the listeners were left immune to what's going out over the air now. If Providence were a market composed of listeners who even cared about radio enough to be discerning then Boston stations would be pulling better numbers here. Coppola sounds like a lecturer who doesn't realize his audience has nodded off, but again he's doing what he's paid to do. Saying he's done it for 30 years so the job he's doing has to be good is like saying Stephen Seagall should have been cast in Avatar because he used to be able to open a movie.
 
Yo Moonstruck, I was saying he did it for 30 years because if all he had going was a show biz family he wouldn't have lasted that long, not for the reason you said. The guy gets numbers and so do the other jocks there.
As far as "lecturing" I find that hard to believe when they only talk for 30 seconds so I doubt anyone's falling asleep. Hard to do a lecture in 30 seconds.
 
Excuse me Moonstruck - Donny Osmond would be better than Mark Copola? So which failed DJ are you? Donny Osmond successfully made me physically ill for most of the late 70's early 80's! I grew up with Copola he does a good job. So please tell me - did you used to be a DJ on radio and now you are doing Bar-Mitzvahs? Copola and some other DJ's have like 30 seconds to say something and then they are spinning - so what would you have happen in that time frame that is "local"? Oh by the way the famous family thing - yeah - OSMONDS! They invented famous family! So genius what's next perhaps you should suggest we have Debbie Boone host the GOTH HOUR in Providence. Even better - the Moonstruck hour with none other than the brilliant musings of .....(what for it).....Moonstruck...ZZZZZzzzzzzz......
 
I think anyone on B101 who isn't local is going to be raked over the coals, Although even if a jock has 30 seconds he can localize. There's this thing called the internet where you can pick up tidbits happening in the market. Then again I don't know if Coppola's show is being piped into more than one station. I doubt that the people left on Oxford St like the idea of these premium choice jocks but no one has a choice.
 
Each affiliate will get custom material for its market each day, plus three “content breaks” common to all the affiliates. Osmond will record the material from Las Vegas, where he’s doing his show with sister Marie, as well as Salt Lake City and Los Angeles. Show airs 10 Am to 3PM

Osmond will record parts of the program on his laptop which will then be sent out to radio stations nationwide. Safe to say what station this will be on in Providence. You take a guess.

As much as I dont want to say this Donny Osmond would be better than Marc Coppola.Nothing against Marc but National Personality and interaction is better than nothing.
He must be getting signed on The Pike,B101 or WODS or all.
 
Is this a legimate post on a new show Donny has OR is it just a bash on Mark Coppola. I don't hear any other jocks mentioned. So I checked in with Arbitron. For the current Fall Book B101 has had there best in a long time. All jocks are up. But since you don't seem to care about any other jock but to bash Coppola, let's take a look at what he's done since being in Providence. The Spring book in Adults was a low 3 share AND as of the current Fall Book his share is now high 8's. To go up 5 and a half points in 6 months, one would think is a good thing for someone you call "beyond boring" OR "National Donny is better than nothing." as if he does nothing at all.
