Could Flukegate Force UNC Athletics Off Rush Radio?

Eh....people that listen to UNC games don't care about "Rush Radio"

Fans just know that "the games are on 94.5" and it's a powerful FM signal with a good reach in the Triad, that's really people care about. The day to day programming is really meaningless.

Also the school does all it can to call the station 94.5 WPTI, not Rush Radio 94.5

It is interesting that the branding is on the Raleigh FM, and not so much the Greensboro one - and both appear to be involved with UNC athletics...

I still think, Rush or no Rush, that Capitol should have gone for the sweep and snatched the Carolina broadcasts away from those idiots at Smoketree... they could consolidate the N.C. State coverage to either 99.9 or 101.5 and put Carolina on the other, and have affiliates for all three Triangle teams.
Look what CC has done to both of their stations the Tar Heel Sports Network has been affiliated with: The games had been on 100.7 WTRG for years, then they kill the station, and the games move to 106.1 the following year. Then, they killed 106.1 not once, but TWICE in three years...

I am in total agreement with the topic Rush was talking about. HOWEVER, I also did NOT like the words he chose to describe Ms. Fluke. Yes, they were offensive, better words could have been used.

If UNC would remove athletic broadcasts from 106.1, what kind of lesson would that be teaching the students? I know we live in a much different world today. What ever happened to discussion? (I am not talking about the dangerous kind where our President shakes hands with Iran). Instead of UNC (maybe) and all of Rush's cowardly advertisers should just realize at the end of the day they were just words. Yes, the wrong words, but just words. Discuss it for crying out loud, instead of running from it.

This whole mess is turning into a playground fight. "That big bad Rush called me a bad name"
At least Ms. Fluke had a chance to talk to the "yentas" on "The View"

Her 15 minutes are slowly winding down.

Stuart, I agree with you 100%. Also I'm surprised that everyone calling for UNC to disassociate themselves with Rush Limbaugh don't realize the school doesn't deal directly with the radio stations carrying their games. UNC sold broadcast rights to a company that agrees to produce the sports broadcasts and line up stations to carry the games. I'm sure when contract renewal time rolls around there will be a lot of discussion and big bucks paid to lawyers to insert clauses in the new contract dealing with a situation like this one. There are probably already stipulations in the current agreement, but this late in the season (basketball), I'm sure it would be almost impossible to execute them.

Rush should never have attacked this individual woman using language like this. What makes this so bad is that he went after an individual, someone you can actually see, has a name, and is a visible victim. I wish those being critical, and this includes me, would be as out spoken about the lyrics of songs on the air calling women ho's, *itches, sluts, and all such things. Of course these songs aren't singling out an individual woman but instead they insult all females. Should UNC also not allow their games on stations playing those songs? If we're going to be upset with certain words, we should at least be consistent.

I think the schools have a difficult time getting stations to carry their games. Not many formats want the disruption of these games as it kills their ratings. The stations that take the games are usually locally owned and need the money. The schools pay well, but there's no denying these games are ratings killers because they disrupt the format. People who love Rush Radio probably hate it when the games come on. A previous poster was correct in saying the UNC fans don't know/care that it's on Rush Radio. They only know they can find the games on 94.5.

And worse than that, there's also the ACC Tournament. I don't know how much this is still being done, but I can remember the Tar Heel Network broadcast of the ACC Tournament, the Blue Devil Network broadcast of the ACC Tournament, and so on. And the Wolfpack broadcast of the ACC Tournament--actually, this is still going on in my case. I was lucky to find another station where I could listen to music, but mine aired the whole tournament whether N.C. State was playing or not. I did hear that exciting ending when my clock-radio came on for Mike Huckabee on Saturday. He doesn't air on Saturday but the radio doesn't know that.

Worse yet for me, the morning DJ, who owns the station and calls lots of local sports events, made the announcement that pretty much the entire day's programming later this week will be NCAA basketball.

Getting back on topic, if they did this on Rush Radio, then UNC forced Rush off Rush Radio.

They still do that. UNC, Duke, and NC State still carry all the games. Wake carries some. More news: UNC's chancellor, Holden Thorp, is asking for a change.

From @reesenews at UNC: UNC Chancellor Holden Thorp says UNC is asking for separation of Limbaugh radio show and UNC sports broadcasts.

I notice in all these news stories it is referred to as only WRDU... but they never really say... can they still call it "Rush Radio 1061" during sports? Or must these stations now be referred to as 1061 WRDU and 945 WPTI?
