Could HD radio revive "old school" soft AC?

I was reading on one of the other boards about some of the new HD channels that Clear Channel and CBS are rolling out in the next few weeks and months. A lot of these newer channels have more niche-type formats. One of those stations is KODA in Houston, which years ago programmed soft AC in its original form. KODA will be programming a new HD channel called "AC Love Songs" (beginning Jan 26) which sounds as though it may be the original soft AC sound that has just about disappeared off the radio dial.

I figure there must still be interest in the original soft AC sound. If not, xm wouldn't be programming it on XM23 "The Heart". Any thoughts on whether the new digital channels could once again renew interest in soft AC as we once knew it?

Yep, there are several others that Clear Channel is rolling out which could be very similar to the original soft AC sound, too, including Washington, DC (WASH-FM, AC Ballads & Love Songs), Philadelphia (WSNI, Soft AC/Standards), and Los Angeles (KOST, Lite Classics). The HD signal for KOST is supposed to start Monday, January 23; WSNI and WASH-FM are supposed to start Tuesday, January 24. WLTW in New York has their HD signal on already, which is listed as "Lite Classics". Not really sure why all the different format descriptions, unless they're slight variations of the same format. I've listened to WLTW's "Lite Classics". According to the Clear Channel website, "Lite Classics" is supposed to sound like WLTW did 20 years ago.

Here's a link for a list of all the new HD signals that Clear Channel has on air or starting in the near future.

You can listen online to them, and the page is updated as stations are added.
