Could It Be? A Dance Friendly Station In...Syria???

The times sure seem to be changing :)
Popular French House DJ David Vandetta is actually scheduled to spin in Damascus next week, and Mix FM 105.7 is promoting it. Appearantly the station has been on the air since 2007 with a CHR format that leans heavily on Rhythm and Dance.

Unfortunately, the stream doesnt seem to be working at this time, but those familiar will Middle East Radio are well aware of Mix FM 104.4 in Lebanon, which has always been Dance friendly/heavy.

BTW, even though it's not common for CHRs here in the States to promote big DJ events, its common in some places abroad. For example, El Lobo 106.1 in Chihuahua, Mexico is constantly promoting on the air DJ Tiesto's upcoming show in Monterrey. Furthermore, the station is Dance friendly, and I've heard Ercola's "Every Word" in regular rotation.

The syria station seems to play for me, but the stream has a real Gurgly sound to it, if that makes sense.

The Mexico station is playing at 96k ACC for me....hmmmmm

Well the Syria station stream is down again,,, it worked yesterday.. LOL Nothing but the best of ISPs and Servers for the Middle east....

This brings back another point I posted a while back.. If places like Lebanon, Jordan, Israel, Egypt, UAE and Cyrpus..(Probably a bad example) and even Turkey,,, and now Syria of all places. Do you think in the future, maybe when the war either ends or becomes more stablized that Baghdad could support a Dance friendly or Dance Heavy CHR,,, either in Arabic ran by the Cool NON Terrorist Iraqis, or could be in English with American and British Jocks.... In a way, Baghdad already has a Dance Friendly CHR with BFBS radio,, the brits version of AFN,, but I am talking about a private owned station, or maybe a Mix FM Lebanon type station. Not a government station that mainly focuses on the troops, but the residents.

Definitely. Baghdad could easily support a CHR, and probably several of them for that matter. Same is true for other cities in Iraq.

Probably the 2 best sounding CHRs in the Middle East are Virgin Radio 104.4 Dubai (I have a link for the stream!) and the legendary Radio 1 in Lebanon on 105.5 FM.

My music partner is in Syria as we speak tour managing for Gary Pine and hes sending me texts on how they are going ape shit over "Love Generation" and Da Groove Doctors "All We Need Is Love"

Oh my,, Ive actually got the stream to work for this station,, I think its a little more CHR than Dance, but id be happy to have a station like this here.. I think its amazing cause Syria does have some what of a corupt government,, Formerly the Ba'th party.. I think this region needs to hear more positive music like Love generation, but if your saying that Gary Pine and so fourth are a bit Nervous to go there, I cant really blame them,, but Lebanon is probably just as dangerous and they have had Dance stations and CHRs there for more than 10 years, and of course Jordan and Egypt, which are much more Safer and friendlier countries have dance friendly stations too, As does their Enemy, but our Alie Isreal... I think after the war, or within a year or two I think Baghdad will have one or two Dance friendly stations,,, And Baghdad used to have the Dance friendly,,, but also Rock,, New and Classic.. and Hip Hop as well,, as as the Hot FM 104.1 until their Hotel they broadcast from was hit by Enemy bombs Im not too sure aout Iran and Saudi Arabia, they are much more conservative and against western culture there. I know the UAE has a few CHRs and Hot ACs that air Dance specialty shows, in fact one of the PDs is a regular poster here on these boards,, but UAE is also not against Western Culture so much, so its not too surprising,, and since Soft AC and Country music, Smooth Jazz ETC dont exist there, I think UAE will have more CHRs pop up in the next few years,, some of which may be dance friendly.

Oh no.. I never said he or others are nervous to go there... He just performed in Beirut and Syria this past weekend.

OK, I hear, ya,, After reading your post about 3 times I understood what you meant, and i can tell you that I am really excited that these Muslim countries are embracing Dance and US Mainstream CHR music.. Im not against open minded Muslims in any way, im only against Terrorist,, and during the Lebanon Isreal War in 2006, Mix fm 104.4 and Radio One 105.5 both aired alot of anti Violence and Anti Terroism Messages, so that was cool of them to promote peace like that. I hope one day that Syria, Lebanon, Isreal, Iraq and the U.S can all be Allies,, its an uphill battle but not impossible.. You gotta remember that these are normal Citizens and not usually the Terrorists that listen to and support these stations,, these people-civilians are not bad or violent in any way.
