Could It Happen?

With K-Love moving into Mobile with the purchase of WABB (and later WDLT-FM) as well as their starting an LMA with WMRK in Montgomery, could a Birmingham FM be next on K-Love's shopping spree? Is it possible that once Cox sells their Birmingham stations (should they not all go to Dubose), and the dust settles, K-Love could wind up with a presence in Birmingham? Or...would WDJC's longevity discourage K-Love of even considering a station in the Magic City? Although Mobile had no other commercial contemporary christian stations established when K-Love came to the area, the scenario is different in Montgomery...with The River being already in place. K-Love is in Nashville now, too...with the WABD/WDLT/WLVM "swap-a-roo" with Cumulus. Doesn't Salem own contemporary christian stations there as well?

Yes. Salem owns "94 FM The Fish", a pair of Class A's on opposite ends of the market. (WFFH Kingston Springs 93.7 & WFFI Smyrna 94.1) After K-Love came on, they also flipped a Southern Gospel station (WBOZ 104.9 Woodbury) to the Fish.

Way FM also has a large presence in the Nashville market. (and is longer-established than Salem)

I think wdjc's presence in the market may be enough to keep k-love out

Format has never (and never will be a issue) for a station purchase. The investor, or buyer will make changes as needed. WRKS, WABB, WFNX, and many others come to mind.

If the opportunity exists, a company such as KLOVE will enter a market. Nashville is a good example. I read that current management has a desire to keep the Bham cluster. It could be a wise decision to sell off the weaker property (ies) and keep the stronger stations, not on the basis of format, but on revenue.

If you were selling off stations in a winning cluster, a non commercial buyer would be a good choice.

As long as WDJC has the CCM audience sewed up to themselves, I just don't see a reason why K-Love would want to come to B-Ham.

It would not profit them to do it anyway.

Just my two cents.

RDP if you've peeked in on the threads regarding the WABB-to-KLove saga then you know that ratings mean nothing to EMF. Remembering that, I suppose my earlier comment about WDJC having the CCM to themselves being a reason for K-Love to not enter Birmingham is wrongheaded on my part.

Of all the Cox properties, are we unanimous in thinking the weak link is 97.3? ;)

If Cox were to spin off one of their Bham stations, I would imagine it would be 97.3. Nothing ever seems to fare well on that frequency, and I believe the Zone is the worst performing format for them thus far. I'm not totally sure, but I believe K-Love has been buying and LMAing mostly C2 and C3 stations...the exception being KHJK, which is a class C, but on the outskirts of Houston, however. WMRK is a C3, and although EMF originally purchased WABB-FM, a class C, they eventually wound up with WDLT-FM, a class C2. With WZNN being a C2, it would be a good fit for K-Love.
