Could Kelly & Alpha Return To B98.5?

Reading Rodney Ho's article, a lot of the comments are pulling for a return of Kelly & Alpha, the previous morning mainstays at WSB-FM.

But after kicking K&A to the curb, in seizing the opportunity to hire S&V, before ultimately kicking them (or at least their show, depending on whether or not Vikki is still at B) to the curb, does anyone think a return of K&A to B98.5 would be realistic?

If I were K&A, and I got an offer from B98.5 to come back... I'd make a beeline for Star or The Groove and try to negotiate with them, just for spite.

Your thoughts?

If Star or Groove were interested in the slightest in K&A, they'd have talked to them long ago because I assure you K&A reached out to everybody.

Don't look for their return to B98, this is a chance for Cox to swing to a piped in or no-effort morning show and not spend a dime. They probably were listening to Will Gara this morning and thinking, "This sounds awesome!"

The ball is now squarely in Star94's court. With this gift laid at their feet, it's time to either invest in and fix the Cindy & Ray morning show, or make a change.

Yes. My prediction is that Kelly and Alpha will return to B98.5 as soon as March 15th.

Remember the lawsuit Star 94 filed against Steve and Vikki? Hell will freeze over before S&V are back at 94.1, regardless of format. Star 94 will have a new format by summer anyway.

lets hope JAL doesn't wage money on any of predictions, this one has zero chance of happening, sorry.

But I could see Star 94 with a new format--or at least new branding. Either full-on soft AC or full-on CHR. No more of this "hot AC death match with Q100" nonsense, especially since B98.5 is getting more rhythmic.

As an aside, Rock100.5 has finally quit their "quality rock" AAA cog-rock fantasies and has gone back to a primarily classic/heritage rock mix, with a little AAA thrown in. So I would say that classic/heritage rock is off the table as a format choice, and nobody will bother with AAA as long as Dave struggles with it. And 80s or "new oldies" is also off as long as True Oldies is playing stuff as recent as the early 1980s (the Police!), and B98.5 is putting 80s on on the weekends.

very funny! this guy sounds OK..huh, we're paying him $7 an hour?...i mean HE SOUNDS GREEEAAAT!

and i actually thought bringing in steve and vikki was cox plan for a no-effort morning show?

cox though they would have to put in no effort...and so did steve and vikki.

Help me understand all this Kelly And Alpha business.
What am I missing? Or is most of the hype generated by the non-working pair and their busy keyboards.

Could Kelly & Alpha return to B98.5?

I'm sure they could. It's still in the same place as when they were working there. They're both smart guys and could drive there again. ::)

I don't think this is going to happen because it would lead to the public perception that Cox made not one, but two screw-ups. First firing K&A, and then hiring S&V to replace them. Cox would have to eat way too much crow.

I'm not sure public perception is a factor. In fact yanking S&V off now just think of this as NBC's Winter Olympics, and K&A are Leno. Which would then make S&V Conan ... which ... uh this isn't working.

To test the public perception theory:

Husband: Honey I'm home!
Wife: Sweetie did ya hear? Kelly & Alpha are returning to mornings on B98.5 FM.
Husband: Really? But weren't Kelly & Alpha fired to make room for Steve & Vikki?
Wife: Yes. But Steve & Vikki didn't work out in the eyes of Cox's management, so they were let go.
Husband: Wow! I wonder if that has anything to do with PPM?
Wife: I don't know. Regardless, I'm not listening to B98.5 FM anymore, even if it is Bob Neil's favorite radio station. I don't like the way they treat their employees. Wow, that's going to be a hard habit to break up, what with the 98 at 9 and fifty minute music hours every hour! And that Kelly McCoy, you never know what he's going to say next!
Husband: Hey let's cuddle in front of the fireplace. Delilah's about to come on!

I guess I should have written "public perception". I meant from the Cox management point of view. As in "If we hire back Kelly and Alpha we'll look like idiots for firing them in the first place!", or some such drivel. ::)
