Although it finished the Summer 2005 Arbitrons as the second most popular station in the market (in terms of 12-plus), and has traditionally been one of the top stations in overall listening, could KOOL-FM get "Jacked"??
As far as I know, there is no "Jack"-type format in Phoenix. And KOOL is owned by Infinity, which earlier this year made headlines for it's controversial flip of two long-successful oldies stations, WCBS-FM New York and WJMK-Chicago, to "Jack". Several other Infinity stations have also been flipped to "Jack" in recent months.
On the one hand, Phoenix seems to be a market whose median age is probably higher than the national average and one where oldies should continue to be successful for radio. But I thought there was also major population growth in the area which might be driving the median age younger, closer to the national average.
