Could KPWR flip?

And from the way it looks, KXOL might end up becoming the new place for LA's Hip-Hop fix. I wouldn't be surprised if "Latino 96.3" dropped the reggaeton altogether and give KPWR a run for their audience and money.

Less than 5% of the KXOL listening is by non-Hispanics. If you listen, the station is "culturally" quite Hispanic.

And that is the problem for Power... KXOL took a large percetage of their Hispanics, and without becomeing Hispanic themselves, they can't directly address this issue. Still, Power is about 54% Hispanic, with Black and Other almost equal.

I love the heritage of Power 106 as a Dance station, I would never want the station to just up and flip formats or rebrand it with new calls or whatever,, Plus Big Boy in the morning is really good. I do think that they should be playing a bit more Dance music, and maybe Dance Remixes of hip hop songs, maybe add a few more Dance mixshows throughout the day, but keep in mind, most of Powers listeners dont remember when KPWR was dance, in fact it never was all Dance, they have always mixed in the Hip Hop and R&B... KPWR already plays most the current POP/Dance stuff that they can get away with before Alienativng their core audience... Also,, Dont take this the wrong way, but alot of KPWRs audience is probably-unfourtunately involved in Gangs... and Most Dance music thats out these days doesnt have a hard enough edge to it to appeal to the ALLmighty Macho guys...... Keep in mind guys, I am a huge Dance fan, in fact I HELP program a CHR station and I do play as much Dance as I can, But I realize I can only have maybe 2-3 Dance currents in High Rotation at a time... But yeah, I think KPWR should ease in some Latin-Urban Friendly Dance hits, but it needs to be gradually eased in between the Hip Hop, If Power just up and goes 50% Dance overnight, they will lose most their audience and adverts... The Key in getting Dance Music to work is to ease it in very gradual.... Look at Power 96 Miami,,, and B-96... Both of these stations are slowly going back to their Dance Roots, but their being smart about it...

Just wondering, David, where do you get all your demographic info? Must one have a year-long subscription to Arbitron or may one buy a single "book"? I have emailed Arbitron this question but received no reply. Many years ago, I walked into an Arbitron office in LA and bought a single book for LA Metro but now, with seemingly everything online, how would I do this?

Considering that a contract (it is not a "subscription") with Arbitron for an LA station could range from lower 6 digits to 7 digits for a cluster, don't count, today, on getting single books. It used to be a small agency or time buyer, such as a retail account, could buy a book for a small amount, but I do not think that is possible now.

You could call an account manager at Arbitron and ask... it's been a long time since I heard of indviduals buying books (early 80's) that I don't know the procedures. You also might ask on the Arbitron site if you can buy a single e-book.

Thanks, David...

To me it seems as if power DID Tweak recently sounds more Urban. I think they are going after some former KDAY Listeners.
