Could KRBE simulcast KIOL on HD2?

Im not sure what the regulations are at present, but would it be a feasible move. It would put KIOL on a in town stick. And perhaps even put KFNC on the HD3 with a Lo-Fi stream since its mainly talk. I read that its coming where stations can re-map themselves. IE, when KIOLs own HD1 signal fades it would know to look to KRBE's HD2 for a better signal of the same stream, but again im not sure what the present regulations are for HD2.

I know of no restrictions to prevent this. Would save the Cumulus partnership the bother of programming a separate HD2/3.

And for that matter, they could put KFNC on there as well, if they thought it would be worth it.

I think accounting for listeners at the HD2/3 level versus the current analog will be interesting to see how that plays out.

...but why? When there is other things that could be formatted on KRBE HD2 and KIOL HD2. KIOL HD2 could be more of a heavy metal/hard rock station...while KRBE HD2 could be a 24 hour dance station. This, to me, would better utilize both stations HD2 capabilities and bring formats to the city that there is a desire for.
______________

I would think that once KIOL is broadcast in HD only (whenever the date is from the FCC) they won't even hit Houston anymore. Considering that the majority of their coverage is staticy, the HD will most likely drop out, thus crushing any chance they have at ever being a player in the Houston market.

I haven't heard about radio going solely digital...only TV. Are you sure about this?
______________

Pure digital on the current FM band is at the very least 25-30 years away. KIOL and its Rock format will be long gone by then, suffering the same aged out irrelevant demographic fate as Adult Standards, Classical, and pre-Beatles oldies already have.

Other distribution technologies (such as an evolved and fully mobile internet) might make the current FM model totally obsolete, leading to its demise.

Last time I heard Glynn Walden speak on it, he said that the analog would never go away.
______________
