Could Lady Gaga finally have big AC success?

"The Edge of Glory" seems like her most fitting song for the AC format yet. Any thoughts on its potential for the AC format? I think it may do well. The sound is much more "adult" than her other hits have been.

106.7 Lite in NYC is playing it, but they are hardly a representation of most AC stations in the country, so that may not even matter...

Lady Gaga is a staple to some of CBS AC like WEAT which plays "Bad Romance" and "Just Dance" in their regular rotation. I saw CBS AC's WLTE playing "Just Dance" when I checked their playlist last night, which is another CBS AC playing it. Although CBS AC's KVIL only plays "Paparazzi" as their current for about 9 months and eventually dropped it out from their playlist and never played it again after they had a playlist update back in March. Besides that KVIL never played any other Lady Gaga songs.

Lady Gaga is also a staple on some of ClearChannel's AC and mainly on their Premium Choice. Their PC includes "Paparazzi" and "Alejandro" in their regular rotation, but it looks like "Alejandro" wasn't on PC long and I think they dropped it from their PC playlist already. Except, it looks like "Paparazzi" has been PC's current for more than a year I think. Other CC stations outside Premium Choice plays other Lady Gaga's songs as well which includes "Bad Romance", "Just Dance", and "Poker Face".

I never payed close attention to any Entercom's AC before until now, so I might be wrong, but I believe that none of Entercom's AC ever played any Lady Gaga's songs.

Renda Broadcasting AC's KMGL and WEJZ never played any Lady Gaga's songs. When I discovered Renda AC's WSHH it was the first AC station by Renda, that I noticed playing a Lady Gaga song. They play "Poker Face" once in a while in their rotation. I don't think they play any other Lady Gaga's songs though, I'm not sure.

Recently, I believe Lady Gaga may be decent enough for AC. Back then I thought Lady Gaga was too aggressive for AC too. It was surprising when Lady Gaga's "Paparazzi" were first heard on AC stations. I think Lady Gaga is pretty sequel to Katy Perry. I believe a lot of AC listeners were surprised the same way when Katy Perry's "Hot N Cold" were first heard on AC stations a few years ago.

Yeah, you can find her songs on some AC stations - "Paparazzi" seems to have held up the best, so far - I think, that 'Edge' is her most AC-friendly song yet. I've never heard Gaga on any AC around here except for WLYT who plays Bad Romance. The funny thing about most Clear Channel AC stations is that none really sound the same, unless they're running Premium. The CC AC's that play her seem to play "Paparazzi" or "Alejandro" the most.

I have never heard Entercom play Gaga on AC, but I haven't listened enough to all of them to know. Entercom AC's seem to favor rock/pop material more than rhythmic/pop material. The thing I've noticed about Entercom's AC stations the most (and I have one in my market) is that while the on-air presentation is normally pretty good, the playlists usually aren't that great. That is definitely true in Greenville/Spartanburg.

I was shocked when "Hot N Cold" was on the chart 2 years ago and I was hearing it - it seemed so out of place, I thought it'd never get anywhere. Now it's uncommon to hear it, "Teenage Dream", "Firework", and "California Gurls" on AC stations.

Renda's AC KMGL seems to favor rock/pop than rhythmic/pop like Entercom AC's. It looks like KMGL kind of resembles Entercom's WSPA in your area. KMGL includes Whitesnake, The Outfield, The J Geils Band, The Tubes, Duran Duran, Lenny Kravitz, Bon Jovi, Survivor, Journey (uptempo songs), Huey Lewis & The News (uptempo songs), etc. in their playlist. After their playlist update after a month ago the slow down a lot on some of these artists, but kind of play more Duran Duran and Survivor after their playlist update.

KMGL still include pop like Katy Perry and they also play Christi's "What A Girl Wants" (not really ACish) more often in their rotation after their playlist update.

I like KMGL one of the best and orignal Soft Rock stations in the midwest since KUDL and KCKC back home bit the dust. My mom always would listen everytime we drive to OKC to visit family. KOST here in Los Angeles would add a certian crossover hit back in the 90's and early 2000's but not now. None of Gaga hits were played on KOST. Katy Perry Teenage Dream was added a while back and its played every now and then. Give it time im sure Gaga hits will be on AC. Some of us never thought Vouge would get AC play.

I like the looks of KMGL. They have the upbeat stuff, but there is enough softer stuff to balance it out. That is how AC should be in 2011, IMO. I also like that they are playing songs such as "Human", "Who Can It Be Now", "Shout", "Here Comes The Rain Again", "True" - all are perfect songs for AC that I rarely hear any play. WSPA's playlist is too tight, in my opinion, and they don't play enough older stuff (70s) if they are not going to have a better variety of newer or current songs. WMYI is much better. Looks like a very good mix.

I could see this one crossing over to AC as well. The Clerence Clemons(RIP) sax gives it an adult feel.

Why can't NYC have a truly Lite radio station? You'd think someone would try it given the success of WFEZ.

Hmmm, because the audience isn't there to support it in large enough numbers?

I actually like Lite FM in NYC. The only thing I give Clear Channel credit on with a few AC stations. Lite in Chicago use to be the same but they changed.

I really am glad that Lady Gaga has at least had some success on the AC format (finally) with "The Edge Of Glory." We will see if it's peaked at 11 or if it can go higher after the holidays (I doubt it). I could see "You & I" getting somewhere on AC also - it seems like some of her songs are getting more 'adult' friendly

I remember back in the 2009 when Katy Perry finally made a successful crossover to the AC format with "Hot N' Cold" and Miley Cyrus also finally made a successful crossover to the AC format with "The Climb". It was the year when Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus was first heard on AC. Actually "Hot N' Cold" was Katy Perry first Hot AC hit in 2008 as well and "The Climb" was Miley Cyrus first Hot AC hit in 2009 as well. So these two artists back in 2008-09 made their first crossover to Hot AC then AC in less than a year. Same goes for Lady Gaga, she made her first crossover to Hot AC then AC in less than a year.

Some people may think "Hot N' Cold" seems out of place for AC in 2009, but AC had embraces other slightly softer pop hits by Kelly Clarkson, Pink, and such artists over the pass decade and that Katy Perry wouldn't have trouble squeezing "Hot N' Cold" into the AC format since it's not terribly that bad for AC. "The Climb" was Miley Cyrus first adult friendly song that really succeed on the AC format well while most of Miley's other songs from the past are very upbeat. Same thing goes for "Paparazzi" in 2010 like "Hot N' Cold" in 2009, some people think it's out of place, but we have been hearing softer pop hits by Kelly Clarkson and Pink over the past decade and Lady Gaga had less trouble squeezing "Paparazzi" into the AC format since it's uncommon to hear upbeat pop like "Hot N' Cold".
