So far the longest surviving urban station is KCEP, which is community owned. But we also had KVEG and KVGS, which both took on the urban format from the get go. KVEG relinquished over to rhythmic shortly after but it would still add the occasional urban title that never made the top 40 pop chart or get played on KLUC for one. Then there was KVGS which launched around the same time, first as a hip hop/rnb outlet then went urban AC until 2006. The latter did ok although the drawback was its signal since it was based down in Laughlin.
Also, KLUC did do rhythmic shortly before going back to top 40. KWID didn't last too long, and KPLV went top 40 from rhythmic ac when KOAS flipped from jazz to rhythmic ac.
I'm pretty sure there is a market for urban radio in Vegas again. The Black population is growing in the region, especially NORTH Las Vegas, so could there be a chance KVEG and KOAS go for two different urban audiences agewise?
