Could Lifestyle Talk work here?

Was just thinking there are a bunch of shows out there that are being aimed at women and some call it lifestyle talk, others call it advice/chit chat talk but my question is would it work in arizona? What if the station positioned themselves as a alternative to all the "politcal" talk that is on the am dial. Some shows I have seen are:

Bob and Sherri
Matt and Ramona
Chick Chat
Dr. Laura
Satellite Sisters (moving to six days a week soon I just read)

What you think?

Satellite Blisters were on KTAR, a more useless waste of the airways I haven't heard. I think Bob and Sherri were on here for a while, it sounded like an extended margerine commercial.

As for shows like that, we have the incredibly boring Jan D'Atri telling us how to make biscotti and how to buy colored tile every weekend on KFYI. zzzzzzzzzzzz

Well Yeah i agree, to a man probably isn't the most interesting radio but if they target women and issues women have, could it be succesful?

Dr. Laura could certainly work somewhere, especially from the perspective that she brings in NTR to otherwise non-lifestyle stations.

Bob&Sheri and Matt&Ramona are "syndicated" by Jefferson-Pilot and aren't really talk IIRC; a lot of music.

KFNN has said that Bruce Williams does better than anyone else on their 100w night pattern; he's on LTRN and as simplistic as the show is production wise, I've been listening a lot recently on XM.

Problem is, the kind of women you want aren't aware of the AM band. Put it on NRJ or better yet do lifestyle talk for men.

Chick chat was tried very unsuccessfully in the mid-90's in Los Angeles at KTZN-AM 710. In fact, KFYI's very own Joe Crummey was a part of the mid-day show, paired with Merrill Markoe. That station put out a good product, but like an earlier poster said, there aren't enough women out there who know about the AM band to allow a station like that to make money. All ya gotta do is look at the arbitrons and see where the women are. They sure ain't on AM.

The women are not on FM either. At least in the Twin Cities. WFMP FM 107 has been broadcasting a womens focused format for over 2 years in the Minneaplis -Saint Paul market. The station is a C2 with 7kw power, their tower is the old back-up KSTP Channel 5 tower in St Paul. Programs include Dr Laura, Dr Joy Brown, and several local hosts.....they are pulling a 1 share. 19 out of 23 measured stations in the Mpls radio market.

My question: do women really want to listen to that stuff every day?

Remember Blink 102.7 in New York? It was Entertainment Tonight with the occasional pop record, and was supposed to be THE format for women. Tanked.

Sometimes I think radio tries too hard to woo an audience that itends up being so patronizing to that target audience that noone can stand to listen.<P ID="signature">______________

It was also tried on the FM in by Emmis in St. Louis (97.1 KFTK), where it flopped. The station now has a conservative talk format and is doing much better than its former female talk format, but it's not a smash hit either.

women make buying decisions..homes furniture cars food clothes etc. so if you can get the right demographic it would be a success....most of the female hosts..the few that are out there...are still doing political talk

We already had "female-oriented" talk here...the old KTAR of the 80s - aka "Keep Toasters and Appliances Running" radio!
