Could NY support a Movin' format?

I've been looking at the playlists of some Movin' stations around the county.
Seems they have heavy rotation of r&b, disco, etc...
Although we have our Rhythmic AC in the form of KTU the movin' format is actually quite different. I'm wondering if that with the demize of smooth jazz might there be a hole for a rhythmic, disco leaning oldies station.

A sample playlist of Movin' anywhere USA.

1. BARRY WHITE, CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF YOUR LOVE
2. CHIC, LE FREAK
3. DONNA SUMMER, BAD GIRLS
4 EARTH, WIND, AND FIRE, LET'S GROOVE
5 FOXY, GET OFF
6 GLORIA GAYNOR, I WILL SURVIVE
7 K.C. AND THE SUNSHINE BAND, GET DOWN TONIGHT
8 KOOL AND THE GANG, CELEBRATION
9 LISA LISA AND CULT JAM, HEAD TO TOE
10 MADONNA, HOLIDAY
11 MARVIN GAYE, LET'S GET IT ON
12 MARY JANE GIRLS, IN MY HOUSE
13 MICHAEL JACKSON, DON'T STOP TIL YOU GET ENOUGH
14 MICHAEL JACKSON, ROCK WITH YOU
15 PRINCE, 1999
16 PRINCE, PURPLE RAIN
17 RICK JAMES, SUPERFREAK
18 SMOKEY ROBINSON, BEING WITH YOU
19 THE GAP BAND, PARTY TRAIN
20 WAR, LOW RIDER
21 WILD CHERRY, PLAY THAT FUNKY MUSIC
22 ZAPP AND ROGER, SO RUFF SO TUFF

I see your point that it would be somewhat different from KTU, but I'm not sure why KTU would want to shift to the Movin' format, or why another station would want to enter the NYC market with that format. It just doesn't seem a whole lot different from what KTU has been doing for years and for that matter, more and more of those tracks can be heard on Lite FM and Fresh.

Personally, I'm a fan of all the songs on the playlist you included, but somehow a Movin' station (when I've heard them in other markets) doesn't compel me to tune in. Maybe it's that I've heard all of these songs many, many times before. Maybe too many.

LoL. I almost reply with the same one word answer. To elaborate a lil further KTU will just tweaks its format to concentrate on more classis dance and drop some of the stale pop hits they play Some of those songs won't even work in the NYC metro area.

At last glance the format is on LIFE SUPPORT in LosAngeles...If it won't work in #2,forget #1.

Just about all of those songs are heard, or have been heard at some point, on KTU. Mix 102.7 played many of them as well. KTU is pretty close to a Movin' format, so I don't think there would be much room for a similar station, especially since that demo (females 25-54) is wholly saturated with stations that are targeting it.

I feel the Movin format in Dallas would work in New York. You'd have to lean it to appeal to Latins and currents must be in the format.

Huh? Dallas has a higher percentage of Hispanics than NY.

Movin' 100.7 in Jacksonville, FL plays a lot of CHR, despite 2 other CHR stations and 1 hip hop station in the market.

Yes. And it should be broadcast on 87.7. While the current 87.7 moves to 103.5 Smiley

I could see it now, Pulse 103 The REAL Beat of NY :) that would be the best radio switch ever! Well, maybe not ever.... hot 103 becoming hot 97 was pretty good.

Looking at the playlist...it sounds like the combination of both Jammin 105 formats (before and DURING Frankie Blue). The disco tunes had more of the Blue Touch while the older material such as "Low Rider" and "Let's Get It On" had the feel of the beginnings of Jammin 105.

Now, if New York City was a market that never had anything like this, I could see it working (and it is in other markets). However, because we've had 'KTU's, Mix 102.7's, Jammin 105's....and to a small extent, a "Lite FM", a Movin' format here would be "one in the same". I think a country station would have a better chance with higher ratings here than a "Movin". Think of the Mix 102.7 numbers before that station disintegrated.

No, we are not gonna have a new Movin' format in NYC, only what we gonna do is:

Put Studio 54 Classsic Showcase Programming on WCBSFM 101.1 or:

Put The Disco Show Progamming on 77WABC right after Saturday Night Oldies with Mark Simone

I think its a ridiculous idea to pursue a Rhythmic AC in nyc.... The rhythmic AC-Movin format is drying up fast and isnt performing well anywhere that I know of other than Denver and Seattle. Also, the Movin format has become so fragmented into leaning CHR, Rhythmic, and Hot AC that the format wont even exist for much longer. KTU is pretty much a new york style movin station and its the closest your gonna get... .... BTW,,, Im sorry I cant capitalize nyc, but my keyboard wont let me capitalize some words.

How does a "Jammin' Oldies" format replace Smooth Jazz? As others are pointing out, "Movin'" is simply "Jammin' Oldies" with a different name.

It clearly wouldn't replace smooth jazz persay but there is no "lite" rhythmic station in New York.
Although I don't think an actual movin' station with the playlist posted would work in New York a classic r&b-rhythmic hybrid could win over some old QCD listeners by default as well as eat away at WCBS, WLTW, WRKS and WBLS.
