Could Salem Expand Its Reach in Boston?

On the Boston radio board, people are buzzing about the deal that fell apart between Saga and Entercom. With that said, the stand alone WCRB is now for sale again. While there are a few people considering it, Salem was mentioned as one of the possible buyers.

If Salem did buy WCRB Lowell/Boston, would they start a new Fish station, or would they move some of their AM stuff to FM as well? This of course considering that they would even consider buying a station in the #10 or #11 market.

Thoughts?

Salem stock is performing soooo badly that the Corporate CEO said, last fall, that Salem had to sell it's underperforming stations to recoup it's losses. The Fish format works OK in a few markets, ie: southern bible-belt markets, but has failed and was removed in a few others. I don't see Salem purchasing anything new for a while unless it gives them better coverage than an existing signal they own in that market. ie: buy a bigger signal and sell the small signal.
