Could Sam Phillips Land At KTLK?

A better question deals with the actual viability of KTLK itself. With liberal networks dying off and a dearth of libtalk talent, the format has been killed off elsewhere and its future in LA is far from certain.

A dearth of talent? That's just laughable. Dial Global just snapped up Thom Hartmann's show, giving it four nationally syndicated progressive shows. And while Nova M getting is getting re-organized into On Second Thought, it's still got a proven draw in Mike Malloy, who was the first 'big name' to leave Air America, yet got cleared on plenty of AAR affils over AAR night programs.

At worst, there's a big midday/mid-morning hole in the Air America schedule--which isn't a concern for KTLK since it never carried the full AAR schedule anyway. They can plug in Nancy Skinner's new show from OST, or more likely, "The Ed Schultz Show" on tape delay.

How many liberal talk stations do well? I can't even think of one that could be considered the granddaddy of all lib talk stations. Green in San Francisco? You'd think that would do better.

If I've posted it once, I'll have to post it again. Liberals listen to NPR. Commercial liberal talkradio will never work snd the proof is in the failurs of all the liberal talk stations over the last few years.

Portland and Seattle have the combination of good signals and an appropriate market.

KPOJ is #5 in 12+, and KPTK in Seattle does quite well in a crowded market, too.

You are forgetting the fact that Sam Phillips is unlistenable. Also, unless Jack Silver is hired there as the PD, it ain't happnin folks!

I had a feeling when I originally posted I would need to make this clarification. There is no dearth of libtalk show hosts. There is definitely a dearth of libtalk talent. Stephanie Miller is the only one who has the whole package of intelligence, wit, and ability to entertain an audience on a consistent basis. The rest come up short in at least one of those areas. Ed Shultz is probably next in line. Everyone else - fuhgetaboutit. Hardly enough to build a local station much less a network around. Who wants to discuss the ratings success of Bill Press? <<Crickets chirping>>

I will re-emphasize a point that I have made on this board in the past since it is now current again. Conservatives need to be doing all that they can to get Rhandi Rhodes back on the air! The vile venom she spews on a regular basis only helps the conservative cause by alienating all but the hard-core kool-aid drinking left. By providing a glimpse into the true nature of the unhinged left in America, she is the gift to conservatism that keeps on giving. Bring back Rhandi!!
