Could Something “BIG” Be Coming to 94.1?

Any word when they are going to make the flip? If they are emphasising on the "BIG" then my money is on a variety hits station like their sister in Boston. This would be an excellent move and could help sway B98.5 to play more 80s. But a true AC station would be nice too so Atlanta can have an official station that plays Christmas music. But that is asking a lot in an overrated and underperforming market but ultimately you have to go where the money is.

Is there any money left in soft AC, especially in Atlanta where the market skews younger (and more black/Latino)?

I was about to say that's about the only format that Cumulus has not tried on one of their translators, but then I remembered Warm 98.9 which didn't come back after Christmas.

Does K-Love do all Christmas? Would Fish consider all-Christmas again this year due to the new competition in the CC space (the B98.5 Christmas Effect)?

Could a variety hits station do all-Christmas, maybe easy on the standards?

I think they could do an all-Christmas come Thanksgiving or a couple weeks before. Heck they did it last year after Thanksgiving with a format that was not at all related. So I think its possible unless someone else does it before which is unlikely.

Does K-Love do all Christmas?

No, K-LOVE does NOT flip to ALL Christmas music. They play their regular time of the year rotation all year round. However, at Christmastime, when their listeners want to hear Christmas music, the K-LOVE staff tell them to listen to an ALL Christmas music stream that they have up every year online at https://www.klove.com/ and on the K-LOVE App.

I could see 94.1 flipping over to Christmas again this year, if they have not flipped formats entirely by then. That two week experiment with holiday tunes last year was very unusual and unexpected but now has me wondering if they were thinking way ahead.

Regardless of the stations, I do expect more holiday tunes this year. This has been a challenging year for a number of reasons and reminds me of the 9-11 effect. Christmas of 2001 saw a huge surge in the popularity of ho-ho-ho tunes, sort of like a 'chicken soup for the soul' after a national tragedy.

FISH has done well with mainstream Christmas music these past two years in the shadow of partial holiday 98.5

Looking beyond the holidays, if STAR flips to variety or true AC, it could also be a potential radio home to Delilah, absent from the Atlanta dial since 2012, or even the John Tesh Radio Show. But would either of these shows gain traction in the A-T-L? As has been established here, this market skews young.

All of the non-Rust Belt major cities have around the same median age. And, except for some upper-Midwest Rust Belt low-growth metros, considerable ethnic population.

With a median age in the Atlanta Metro of over 35, that means half the people are 35+, and many will be interested in a "soft AC" which, of course, is more about age of the songs, not the tempo. Of course, in markets with big Hispanic populations, all varieties of AC have considerable appeal among that group.

Jenn & Friends out

It is being reported that the Jenn & Friends morning show is out, but Jenn Hobby will be back soon with some sort of announcement.

I am waiting for an official ruling from Caller10 on this whole Star94-1 issue. But I tend to think someone is having fun with this rumor.

A reliable source told me that there will be changes in music and positioning, but not as drastic as is being predicted on this thread. If my source is correct, which is likely, the moniker will be Star 94 without the "1."

We'll have to see. Usually a bit telling when airstaff start getting dropped.

If I recall correctly, Entercom had registered 1051thesound.com a while back for KRSK Portland, suggesting a flip to soft AC mirroring KSWD Seattle. Never happened. It's possible the same could happen here. I'd assume a change in music would still be in the realm of classic hits, variety hits, or AC with 80's focus realm. CHR doesn't make sense, and personally I don't think it will be mainstream AC.

Whatever it will end up being, it will keep B98.5 and the River on the lookout. As for Power and Q, not soo much.

Didn't we just go through this with WGST being simulcasted on 105.3?

My source wasn't guessing the music from anything registered or from the Star 94 moniker. He had specific information about the music, and it was not Variety Hits.

Jenn Hobby is not mentioned on the Star 94.1 website

Jenn Hobby is still with Star 94.1 based on what I am reading, but their website does not mention her at all! Could her days be numbered there as well????

Y'all, the more and more I think about the what ifs, the more I think my theory will come in fruition. So here me out on this one: they will go AC with Star 94 as the name. I'd be shocked if they get rid of the name that has been a staple name in the market for such a long period of time.

It's happened before. Heritage means nothing if the ratings are crap.

AC is one of the formats I thought of, but WSB-FM has been the market's heritage AC for decades and I don't think it would be fruitful for Entercom to try and compete directly with it.

RE Jenn Hobby: It's possible she will still be involved in the new branding/format of the station, either in a different daypart or in mornings with a new team. I still think variety hits, maybe not in the exact vein of WBGB where that station leans towards a male audience, seems like a good choice if they were to flip it.

I think Entercom uses "BIG" for Variety Hits type of station. Not Jack or Bob.

Entercom owns many variety/adult hits stations under a variety of different monikers. It didn't want to pay to license Jack/Bob clearly, so they went with Charlie, Simon, etc. When they picked up CBS Radio's properties, they got a slew of Jack FMs from them. Other brands include The Lake (a brand iHeart uses that Entercom acquired in the swaps from the CBS merger), The Buzz, and The Spot. The latter two are more female-oriented variety hits.

The only station in Atlanta that kept its moniker after a significant format change was Z93 when it flipped from CHR to classic rock, and maybe Peach flipping from BM/EZ to AC. And the latter was gradual--Peach still had some BM/EZ dayparts at night for a while.

Don't most variety hits stations go light on the talent, or completely jockless?
