Could streaming help WNEW and WKTU chances

Would streaming make WNEW and/or WKTU more viable by broadening the audience base? They have a unique product many cities don't offer - dance and disco. If a rock, talk, or Jack station does not stream there are plenty other ways to get the same music. The same can't be said for WNEW and WKTU style music. I know royalties make streaming economically difficult, but since they have a format not available outside New York, the increase of non-New York listeners would mean an expanded listener base for advertisers. This worked for Groove Radio in L.A. for several years (before the owners sold the station). Wouldn't webcasting help expand these niche stations. The economics would work themselves out through an expanded internet listening base.

You obviously don't know much about the stations you're talking about, because KTU talks a lot about its website and its stream... which you can find on their website www.KTU.com

WKTU steams now as you know. Not sure though about the commercials. There are problems with some stations in terms of broadcasting commericals over the internet. ENERGY/SF for example cannot legally stream their commercials.

Yep 'KTU streams. Though I have been pushing for a "KTU2" which would be the current songs that are on rotation as well as new music that wouldn't necessarily get first airplay on terrestrial 'KTU but if it generates a buzz...could possibly "crossover" from streaming to on-air.
